View Full Version : Bad news for Triton Workbench owners
I was in Bunnings a couple of weeks ago, at the tool section, and i over heard a conversation between one of the Bunnings guys and a customer.
The guy was after some spare parts for his Triton workbench. The salesman told him that Triton was bought out by GMC, that cheap tool company, which has gone bust. Not surprised about that, it was rubbish stuff.
Consequently all new and spare parts are now not available until the legal stuff is sorted, if at all.
Hope someone sees the benefit to marketing the brand as its a handy piece of gear in the shed... someone who has lots of money.. Doug????
I have lots of it in my garage. Brand new :) Been there for a couple of years now and still in boxes. Must get motivated and build something. Maybe something in plastic.....
"someone who has lots of money.. Doug???? "
Sorry, wrong number.
What a tragedy! Triton was/is brilliant, and I think GMC stuff was ok for a cheapie brand Dave. I use their drills at work rather than $300 versions which f***wits are only going to drop in the water. Any problems I've had with them have been battery-related and fixed quickly and painlessly by GMC (PROVIDED YOU HAVE THE RECEIPT!)
Anothe company that's gone down the gurgler much nearer to our hearts is "Nylex". They made some excellent 12' poly dinghies (I have two and wish I'd bought more before they doubled in price, just before going tits up last year) They leave the Tuffy for dead in the indestructibility stakes.
Glad you had a good run with them Doug. I had a cordless drill... shoulda called it a powerless drill. as you say the batteries were crap, wouldnt hold a charge. I also bought a 240v whipper snipper, only wanted a cheapy for a couple of months.. didnt even get the job done once.. chucked it and the drill, vowing "never again"
I bought an angle grinder from supercheap when I had the tri. Wanted something that was disposable and low watts to run off the generator. Went like a Pit bull on a kitten... still use it today and only cost about $45 bucks.
I didnt know about Nylex... where do i buy my hose from now?
Got any pics to the boats? I dont think I have seen one.

i managed to shear the shaft of a electric corded drill from GMC taking screws out of roof sheets, piece of crap! i'm not trusting the rest of the GMC stuff i have now. now have a kick arse 18V Metabo drill instead.
Those Triton workbenches will be a missed item, they did a very good job and i better look after the one i have
I purchased a 9 inch grinder in the GMC brand, which is alien to all my other tools. They are Metabo,Makita and Hitachi, but the GMC grinder, just like Cane Toads,...........can't kill it !
I just knowed you were a man of taste and discrimination, Giffo. Wave the flag for GMC stuff! It may not be brilliant, but it's bloody good value for money. (Bit like m'self.)

I can give you something that makes that cough go away, Pete. You can have 9mm or 7.62?

Doug, .40 although not a military calibre is more effective for short range cough suppression, provided you use the hollow point......yippy

I'm with you Baker Bill. I hate mowing too. So much so that the Mrs does most of it around here.yippy
nearly all my house block is cement,..
Commonly known around here as a Lebanese lawn. I got one too, think I'll go have a kebab and watch it not grow.
Had to go across the road and tell my new neighbour about the proper way to mow his lawns. He started the mower for his wife and then went to sit in the shade of the verandah. Grass is dry and the ground is dusty at the moment, but you could still see her at times when the dust blew away.
Anyway I told him that it was o.k. to start the mower for her, but he should have had her get him a cold one before she started mowing. That way he could enjoy the shade more. Young people - they have a lot to learn.
walks away with hands in pockets, wondering what are young people coming to.
question crosses his mind, was the young lady wearing shoes.
Paul, greatly worried about the young.
