Team,

Been on a very unsuccessful mission to replace some noisy bearings on my RM trailer. Saw the local dealer who sold me the boat, he sold me some new Holden bearings, went through all the drama of jacking trailer, removing wheels, dropping springs off, raising axle, removing brakes, hubs, bearings, inserting new bearings, replaced hubs, and those of you that have done this before will be saying "Ford bearings you idiot." So did it all backwards and ended up three hours later at exactly the same spot where i started.

Thought i would be smart and buy some new hubs and brakes while i got new FORD bearings, got it all last week, went through the whole shebang again today, got to the bit where i put the wheel on at the end and the ford hubs i got have different PCD to the wheels i have. WTF??? The rim says 14 x 6 JJ then under that it says HT. Does this mean it is a holden rim on a ford-bearinged hub?? My brain is hurting, and 6 hours and $300 later my trailer still has noisy bearings, rusty hubs and no brakes. Can anyone help with some advice as to what parts are what on this stupid trailer???

do you have the numbers off your bearings and I might be able to help, just been through this myself with a different branded trailer but yeah I know what your going though.

You can get holden bearing hubs with ford stud pattern and also vice versa ford bearing with holden stud pattern.

The HT stamped on the rim means you have a HT stud pattern, 5 stud.

You are lucky. Yesterday one of the wheel bearings on my RM trailer (5.33 polycraft)disintergrated on the way to the ramp, I was lucky enough to get to the ramp and launch boat without losing the wheel totally. I don,t know why as bearings have not been getting too warm and also show no sign of water getting in. I got around the problem of the brakes by removing the actuating lever on the brakes, then taking out the top bolt and swinging the brake assembly down out of the way. I then removed the hub and what little was left of the bearings. This saved a lot of work. I have not tried it yet on the other hub and maybe the lack of bearings allowed me to do this.

Buying quality bearings is the go, I put Timken bearings and Durahubs on my boat trailer 2 years ago and the bearings are still like new. I just change the oil every 12 months in the Durahubs.

Ended up getting two new ford rims for another hundred so will put them on tomorrow. So will have ford rims, ford hubs and ford bearings. Now that i think about it, probably should have gone all Holden seeing as how i have a colorado and a rodeo....d'oh. Can recommend Active Fabrications in Brissy for anyone in QLD, have been dealing with them over the phone from a mine site in the middle of nowhere and have come home both times to find everything i ordered waiting in tiptop condition. And cheaper by a long shot. Got quoted from the local tyre mart $230 for each gal rim in ford pattern. Each. Versus $105 delivered to Gladstone for two identical rims from Active.

Callide and dawson near Biloela. Not quite in the middle of nowhere but you can see the edge of nowhere on a good day.
