gday guys i have a 4.5m Drifter and i am thinking about putting a overhead rodholder on something like this one

http://www.biasboating.com.au/p-92-boat-arch-rocket-launcher.aspx

it will be handy to put spotlights on and the vhf antenna later on and maybe a solar panel to charge batteries.

what are your thoughts?

cheers bradly

to me it looks like there is not enough strengh, all the rod holders can pivot but if you can do chin ups on it then that would be good enough, might be worth seeing what you can get made locally in stainless, just my thoughts

A bit light on as it is only 1.6 mm tube,it will have to carry a bit of weight with 6 overheads or 6000 size reels on rods in a moving boat.A custom made one will cost more but last a lot longer I think.

I have one very similar on my 5.3 for the last 3 years or so.

I don't do much blue water so I don't think that my 6 rods would weigh much but good point thanks.

Pirate Pete got any pics of how it sits on your and how it folds down please cheers

Rear on.

I never drop mine down as my shed is big enough to back the boat in & not even drop the antennas down. yippy yippy

Mate, it just creates more things to look out for when your casting. Better off storing your rods in horizontal racks on each side of the boat, that way everything is out of the road when a big school busts up next to you.

Just my 2c

pete that looks good on your boat and out of the way the angle it holds the rods at also looks good too, just wondering about the side to side flex and if its strong enough to do a chin up, not that its nessasery just curious

Hi Jkis

I dont think you could do a chin up on it & it does wobble a bit but not that much that I would worry about. Most of my fishing is within a 15min run from the ramp.
