Welcome to the first polyboatowners.com Boat of the Month. Each month we will feature a different boat to be included in the My Boat Showcase.

The inaugeral BOTM is a nicely configured 4.55 Polycraft. I spoke to Andy about his boat.

PBO: What model is your boat?
Andy: She is a 2002 model 4.55 cc

Did you buy it new or second hand?
It was a demo model, I paid $6500 for the hull and trailer, delivered to dubbo and drove 600km to pick it up

Where did you buy it?
I bought it sight unseen from extreme marine in Brisbane I think, I have heard they are closed down.

How was the dealers service if you bought it from a dealer?
Dealer service was crap, trailer was wrong type and set up wrong, hard to argue with someone that is over 3000kms away.

What guided you in your decision to buy this particular size and the centre console layout.
I wanted a tuff no nonsense CC boat not to big and not to small and the poly fitted it well

What motor is under the cover?
I fitted a 40 hp 2st yammy cv first and it went all right, top speed 45km. Then with the big miles I do I went for a 50hp 4st zuk and couldn’t be happier, but not much quicker the the 2st yammy.

Are you happy with the motor and performance?
The boat and motor are a good match and very happy with the performance of both.

The boat is well laid out, what extras (electronics, fishing gear, etc) do you have in the boat?
I have fitted a hummingbird colour sounder, garmin gps, livebait tank, baitboard, nav lights, alloy 55lt underfloor tank and hatches fitted in the corner seats.

The T-Top looks like a good piece of gear. What brand is it and does it meet your expectations?
Not sure of the t top brand but I got it thru bias boating for $360 and is a good bit of gear.

Did you fit the after market equipment or have it professionally fitted?
I fitted all the gear myself.

What type of waters do you use the boat in, estuary, sheltered or open?
I have used the boat in waters ranging from the big swells of mid north coast of nsw, NT and QLD gulf, river, creeks and reefs and the muddy cooper creek.

What influenced your decision to by a poly material boat?
The decision to buy a poly was I needed a boat that could handle anything I threw at it in the water and on rough tracks, the poly fits that bill perfectly.

If there was one thing you could change about your boat or layout, what would it be?
One thing I would change about my boat would be straighter sides for fishing in rough water.

How long have you been boating?
I have been boating for nearly 30 yrs.

How would you rate this boat against any previous boat you have owned or had extensive experience in?
I would never own a tinnie in this size at all again. It just laps up that gulf chop and leaves the tinnies behind.
