I'm thinking of down grading the poly to a 4.8 version, but at the moment i've got a 5.3 that has a motor too big for it. Would I be better off selling the boat and motor seperatly? Or sell them as a combo?

Hi
And the motor is?

Normally the answer in my view is no. Many buyers don't like engineless boats. On the contrary for older boats with big engines. Newer boats have insurance issues but older cheaper boats are less likely to be insured.

Have in mind a price what the whole package is worth and just list it as one but don't mention engine size, just say Suzi and year model. A late model Suzi should be popular.

If you get no takers or buyers say too big a motor, then try seperate. But I'd go the one first up, I know locally no one likes to sell a boat engineless, all my friends claim if you have a hull only its worth getting an old 2 stroke at least to get a better price.

Personally I'd buy it but I'd know I'd have insurance issues, so age and cost would be a factor. With older boats one trick with insurance is to re-label the engine cover and play dumb, but there are limits and I'd doubt I'd try this on anything but same size engine block.

You can also try and get the boat re-rated with some minor mods.
