Good looking rig Fishmagnet.

Just looking at your setup how much weight have you got on the ball?

I had way too much when I first got mine & had to move the axle forward.

But as mine is a cuddy cab it would have more weight further forward.

Mate,
it was a joy to deal with your self! It definitely had it's ups and downs, with the factory being down for just over 12 weeks!!!(whistle)
But glad to see you enjoying the pleasure boating with the family can bring.:D

Yeah, mine's about the same as you Pete. Are you able to lift the towbar FM?

Too much to hope that Pontoon Boy would have got it right for you. It's all just about the money with him.:p:p:p:D

No I cant lift the front. The Big Fella is coming up for a visit in January. Maybe we can sort it out then? How much of a job was it to move it Pete?

I thought the Cruisers rear end was a bit close to the ground....

It's not a huge job to move it if you can launch the boat and do it without the boat on the trailer. Pete dragged his boat off onto his front garden and made the place untidy. I put mine in the water and did the job at my jetty.

Moving the axle isn't that hard. Maybe I'll measure just where I have mine as a Front runner is probably about the same weight as a Centre Console (not Pete's cuddy cab). Then you won't have to do it twice.

Better still, get PB to do it for you and bill him for your time watching him do it.:D:D

Thanks Doug, Much appreciated!

Dave the mods will have to wait till my bank account recovers from the shock of the boat purchase, but any suggestions appreciated.

There are 2 U Bolts either side on the assembly that the springs are attached to. I wound my jockey wheel right down. Sat some jack stands under the rear of the trailer on both sides & then wound the jockey wheel back up again. This took the weight off the springs. Then I undid the U Bolts & slid the assembly forward. I maked where it was sitting in the first place & measured fron the rear of the trailer to keep things square & then bolted it back up. Adjust the length of the wire brakes.

I was always told that you should have about 10% or the BMT weight on the ball of the tow vehicle.

My trailer also has side lights on the mud guards that I needed to extend the wiring on.

I tried to post this earlier but for some reason it didnt post. I left the boat on the trailer.

Cheers Pete,

Sounds like a pretty simple job to do over a few beers. I might give it a go tomorrow morning.

" I left the boat on the trailer. "

Sorry Pete, I thought that was the time the garbo nearly took it away by mistake! We need to give FM the measurements.

FishMagnet, there is no such a thing as a "five minute job" where boats are involved. (Listen to me Grasshopper!)

Here are some measurements for you Fishmagnet.

From the back of the axel to the very frount of the coupling I have 4780mm on my RM trailer.

Another measurement is 1280mm fron the back of the mudguard to the very rear of the trailer.

I have never measuerd the weight on my ball but my total weight is around 1500Kg so if I have 10% on the ball like they recommend it would still have 150Kg on the ball & there is still no way I can lift it but the car now isnt dragging its bum on the road.

I am going to give it a go as soon as the weather breaks up here. P!ssing it down and stinking hot at the mo.

FishMagnet, looking at the photo the boat seems to sit well forward on the trailer. The rear of my boat is nearly level with the front of the tail light brackets. Moving the winch post back 300 mm or so may make a difference also.

Nice rig fishmagnet,

I was considering trading up to a 5.3 or a 6m (from a 4.5), but I only have 1500kg tow capacity to play with on my ute. Any idea what the BMT and load weighs? I looked at the dry weights of the 5.3 and 6 and considered an extra few hundred KG for motor and trailer, but when you start adding fuel, ice etc, start to get mighty close to the 1500kg mark.

How dry is the centre console in the wind and how does it handle some chop? Your thoughts would be appreciated - anyones in fact.

BMT is 1650kg for the 5.3 CC so it's a little over. Maybe a 4.8m will suit?

Agree...my boat (5.3CC) loaded is about 1650 as well.

MMMMMM...maybe change the vehicle and still get the boat you want:)

I would agree with this. Definately worth the extra length in boat.

The 5.3 handles the chop really well. As for getting wet in windy conditions, you will get wet in any centre console in windy choppy conditions if you dont make some mods. I am considering putting some beefier rails up front with spray clears. Also once my T Top is finished I'll put some clears on there too.

I like the centre console for their versatility family/ski/fishing boat. The 5.3 Centre console double as a bow rider when you take the centre hatch cover off.
