Hi All,
Over Xmas I bought myself a new toy for the boat. Its been around for a while but I cant believe we ALL don't have them yet. Its a C.A.S.T Wireless lanyard. In their words "This wireless solution eliminates hitch and un-hitch time, accidental disconnects, and annoying entanglements commonly found with yesterday’s old-school lanyards" Its so easy to fit and it comes with 2 Transmitters, Control Module and Hardware. This Unit will kill the engine & sound an alarm when someone with the transmitter on them, falls in the water. Hit the button to override & recover overboard person, shake off transmitter & away you go again. Good new is I found them @ http://www.boatingsafetysolutions.com/CASTwirelesslanyard.html for only US$160. Retail is US$400. Its accepted in Pro Bass tournaments in the USA so nobody should have any troubles over here as well. Here is a link to their website with more info http://www.wirelesslanyard.com/default.asp Please take a look because something as simple as this will save lives. I know how many times I have taken off and just didn't bother connecting my lanyard. They are annoying & cumbersome, but with this wireless version, just keep it attached to your inflatable PDF or whatever.

Very good piece of gear and as Bruce says a great price.

I know when I have been out in the boat by myself, I have often had a thought about what would happen if I fell over as like probably 99% (ok generalisation stats) I dont clip mine onto my shirt.

Serious consideration for this one

I can remember one time when I had a 4.2m Maricat yacht. I had what was called a touring jib on it & with it still set the resistance in the water from the twin rudders was enough for it would keep its course. I was sailing in some gusty winds not all that long after getting the boat & the little cat tipped right up onto 1 hull with the mast almost horizontal. I let the main sheet go & ditched over backward so I didnt hit any rigging. Letting the sheet go dumped all the air & the boat came back up right as I ditched into the water. The jib was still sheeted on & the boat then sailed away from me (whistle) (whistle) (whistle).

Some very nice people picked me up & another boat chased after the yacht & stopped it. . . . . . . .

From that day on if I thought the boat was going to tip I drove it even harder & when I jumped for it I grabbed a shroud on my way over & pulled it in with me.

:D:D:D Pete I have had that vision in my head about falling over board and the boat keeps going off into the distance... not sure what would be worse, the inconvenience, the damage or the embarressment?

In the states alot of people also use them with Pontoon boats. People sit on the front of them and can fall in the water, next come face to face with a Prop. When you have alot of people on board the captain cant always see them but this way he will know. You can also put them on your pets collar LOL.

I remember as a teenager we were down at the lake sailing a mates hobie cat, and a forward steer tinny was doing doughnuts around the bloke that fell out.One of those inventions would be cheap insurance.
