View Full Version : Electrical Problem - Any Ideas?
I charged the battery, cleaned all the terminals, checked the voltage - 13.4v. Checked at terminals and also main leads off battery.
No power to motor or tilt/trim unit, ie wont turn over or move. No click no beeps for start up checks, as if there was no battery at all.
Anyone know if there is a fusable link or some other type of fuse arrangement thats not blatantly obvious?
Any other ideas?
This may sound dumb. Is it a Single battery set-up or twin battery? if single are you getting power to the other electrics like radio etc?
now i think about i think you may have a twin battery set-up?
"Any other ideas? "
You holding your lips the right way?
Helpful as always Doug..
Yep its a twin battery but disconnected the other battery.
The only thing runs off the main is the main electrics for the motor.

I find its best to poke your tongue out just a bit (usually to the right) as you turn the key Dave . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Do you have a multi meter to check whether or not you have power at the starter motor?
yeah Pete I do.
I was hoping someone would know where stuff is on the Suzi. There must be an inline fuse or fusable link in there you would think?
Will have to rip the cover off and stick the mm in a few spots and point tongue in right direction.
Where's that bloody Glenn when ya need him?? Probably off selling boats to poor old retired grannies. So much for the free advertising paying off!!!

G'day Guys,
There is a fuse under the engine cover on the port side (from memory) One of those in-line blade holders?
Try that and if that doesnt work,,,, buy a box of long necks and find a shady tree!!!!!(alco)
thanks glenn
will check if i can find it... should I buy the 6 pack before I lift the cover or after? :)

have u been messing around with the electrics & maybe arced the wires. There are fueses after the batery & under the dash that u will want 2 check. Buy the drinks first & some plyers if they are rusted shut.
Dave have you still got power at the trim tilt button at the motor. The same problem has happened to me twice and the wiring loom was replaced under warranty(twice). There is a heat shrink join in the loom which allowed moisture in.

Hi Mark
No there is no power at all.
I checked the motor fuses, starboard side under a cover. If it stops raining I will check power to various parts.
i have found out how to raise the motor with no power so I might just send it across to the mechanic. Its in need of a big service (read $$$$$$+++) doh
mmm big $$ to mechanic mmmm'
i ll have it
and do a service etc
if u can read and know the difference between a socket and spanner
$80 for a service manual or download of the net as a free torrent
impeller and oil another +- $50
mmm saved $$ and u know its done right
u obviously know that the battery is fully charged
should be at least 1 inline fuse under cowling which is most probably the issue
they normaly only go when u have stuffed the polarity around on starting leads
eg crossed wires on a 2 battery bank system(yes i learned it the hard way)
dont trust your eyes on this run a test light or a m/meter on continiuty to make sure the fuse is ok
bet thats the problem as nothing else can really cause this
only other thing would be some major loose connection

Prior to expending $$, carry out this simple test. Get a mate to put your multimeter across the battery terminals and crank the motor, is the battery retaining the voltage that was indicated under no load, the voltage should decrease under load to not less than 12V. Batteries will indicate they contain a charge under no load, as soon as you apply a load they can go open circuit.
This process is duplicating the functionality of a conventional battery cell tester.
If there is no decrease in the battery terminal voltage your problem lies within the circuitry or wiring to the starter motor. Alternatively your battery is kaput.
