G'day Rodney and Jo,

I've only recently bought my 4.1 open second hand and it came with a bow mounted electric. It's a Minn Kota 55lb Rip Tide. I've been very happy with it so far. Steering with my foot has been a bit of a learning curve and I still tend to over steer a bit, but that's my fault, not the motor's. I've had it pushing against the tide and the wind and while it wasn't quick, it worked quite well. The one thing I have noticed is that going across the wind can be quite difficult to maintain a straight line. My mate showed me the autopilot feature last time I was out, which I didn't realise I had, but is quite good. Apparently there is some type of compass in there and once you deploy the autopilot, it will maintain your current direction and adjust for tide and wind as necessary.

As for mounting, the previous owner cut away the forward section of the rail on the port side and capped the end. The base plate is just screwed on the front and lives there permanently with the motor coming on and off.

Happy to send you a piccie if it helps.

Cheers,
Pooch.

A few pics of my well worn Watersnake.

I fitted a second a hatch on the port side of the anchor well in aid to access the threads of the SHCS's to fit the nyloc nuts and extra large washers.
Have fun digging out the itchy foam.

Hope this helps.

I've got a Minn Kota 55lb thrust bow mount on my 4.1. I prefer the remote wrist control rather than the foot pedal to control it. Means I can readily use either the forward or rear casting decks when I am in the boat on my own. I actually have a second remote so that when there are two of us in the boat, we can share control as required.

Slippery and/or others:

Very interested in how you find comfort and fishing with 90% of the area covered by flat platform, so close to the gunnel edge...?

Do you sit on a seat you pull out from that storage area I see?

If so, how do you mount this seat?

Splash,

The only seats I have are under the rear casting deck. I fish in windy conditions quite easily. Have'nt fallen in yet.

I used these on my tinny (Don't worry - it sank). Once the seat is removed it only leaves the round thingy attached to the rear platform. You can attach your choice of seat to the clip on bit. And they rotate.

( I bulk-bill - please send Medicare number)
