It seems we are in for a bit of nasty weather up here.

Each summer brings the threat of cyclones, but fortunately, they seem to bounce off the torres strait or go around. Last one up here was around 2004.

Last couple of days have been beautiful. The quiet before the storm as they say. This morning i notice the wind is starting to get up and we are starting to get some MORE rain.

Cyclone path at the present is direct to Weipa, so get your rain coat out Mark!

fingers crossed it doesn't get nasty, seems that the other side of the coast just isn't built for the big ones, they come over here and yeah there is some superficial damage but when a big one hits the east coast it's a bomb site.

I love cyclones personally, i have a great respect for mother nature and it's fury so the awe inspiring power of a cyclone is just amazing, bring onn a cat 5 over K-Town!!!

I guess it depends on where you are in relation to the cyclones path, I was in the Kimberly a couple of days after Ingrid went through, to supposably start a new job in a resort located in a gorge of the Cockburn range. I got choppered in to have a look but by the time she'd finished with it, the resort was kind of "gorge adjacent". It wasn't the wind that flogged it, it was rain, 500mm in a couple of hours.
Needless to say I had to find another job.

Seems the low is no longer expected to develop into a tropical cyclone before it reaches the west coast. Been a bit gusty though and we are getting some decent rain. Likely to cross the peninsular and its anyones guess what it will do then.

Problem with cyclones here is all major roads will be out and there is no high ground.

Lucky I got a fish in up the river on Saturday as it has rained since.
