Fished Bluff Reef in the Sandy Straits for a couple of hours this morning. Bought home 2 nice cod caught on live pike, one grassy sweetlip and one squid. Went searching for the Ballast Banks in Kauri Creek. If I was in the right area then all I could catch were big green sea toads. Have never seen so many turtles, had to be cautious driving to avoid them.

The turtles are thick at the moment.I went out 10 ks to a patch of reef off Elliot Heads, and could not soak a bait as the turtles would hammer it,must of been a couple of dozen on this pinnacle.Tried trolling but no Mackeral.

I took a day off on Friday and ran up to Gould reef off of Bowen. The water was glassed out and it was stinking hot. We struggled all day to put fish in the boat and there was no run what so ever. This was the first time I have ever been to the reef and had the anchor rope just hang limp all day.We ended up with some red throat, mackeral and only 2 Trout for a 110NM round trip. Its a bit frustrating when you fish all the spots that usually hold plenty of fish and dont even get pickers but I knew before we went that without any run it was going to be a bit quiet, but it was still better than spending the day laying blocks. I am hoping the weather will be good next weekend as I might go for a night fish on the new moon.

I was supposed to go out this morn at 4am but it is persisting down and blowing a gale.So much for 5-10 knots and chance of a shower.
