View Full Version : Fitting a seat in a 4.1m tiller
Hi all,
I was thinking about fitting a seat to my tiller steer 4.1 to make life a bit more comfortable. What is the best way of doing this? Do you just have to mount the seat to the hatch cover, or is it a bit more technical than this?
Cheers,
Simon

I fitted seats to my 4.1. Bought a kingpin post and deck base from Whitworths for about $50. Kingpin post screws into bottom of seat.

Hi i have the same set up as jelifish, but its not as good as it could be, when I set the boat up it was fitted with a 30 2stroke and the seat was placed to suit that tiller arm, since then I have had a 40 4stroke yammy fitted, the tiller arm is a fair bit longer than the other, so now i find I need to sit on the esky to be able to drive with ease, so have a long thing about were you need to be in relation to the tiller and go from there.

Good comment Poly. My setup was ideal for my 2 stroke then I added a trim tilt setup. So in reverse to yours I had to add a length of poly to my tiller to make it workable.

Thanks for the info gents. I'll start looking for the parts. At least it is simple like I was hoping!! The only trick is fitting it in the right place it seems.

Simon, what outboard do you have? Does it have a long or short arm? What about PTT?
In mine, I fitted a flat board about 400mm wide immediately in front of the back bins, running the full width of the boat, then fitted the seats to that to accommodate the longer tiller of the yammy.
Here's a photo:
I have a 40Hp Tohatsu 2 stroke. I have only just got the boat (used it once) and haven't given too much thought to this change as yet. I will have to have a good think about where my bum currently sits before doing anything.
I will have a few other projects coming up so I will be prowling this site for some good ideas!!
Cheers,
Simon
