Dear Prime Minister

Recreational fishers and boaties are sick of being ignored when it comes to your Government establishing marine parks or changing zoning as was done by Minister Garrett in the Coral Sea case, or when Government decides what fish need to be protected and the best way to do that. We are tired of you simply declaring our fishing grounds as “no take” or “no human activity” rather than addressing the real threats to sustainability.

In addition, the bioregional planning process your Government has initiated is universally regarded in recreational fishing and boating circles as a joke, with predetermined outcomes influenced by the only people your Government seems to listen to or meet with: environmentalists.

What happened to the genuine engagement that you promised us when elected?

Enough is enough! Its time you listened to us and take our views seriously.

I for one will not vote for you again unless I see some dramatic changes in not only what you say about these matters, but what you do.

The Boating & Fishing Council of Australia represents us in these matters – please get on the phone to them now and sort this mess out!

Regards
