Well I've got a day to go before holidays and I've discovered my bottom bung is leaking from the fitting not the bung itself.

Question is when I apply the Lexel do I wait for it to harden a bit before screwing the fitting back on or just straight away.

The boat will be moored for a week so have to get this right or I"ll be adding a bit of reef to the canal :)

I did a similar job and i just shoved it in. I figure that way the Lexel can work in around it similar to a silicone.

So far no problems.

Thanks Dave. The reason I was leaning towards letting it go off for a bit was to make sure there was a good base of Lexel under the fitting. If I screw the fitting into place straight way there might be only a small amount of lexel left under the fitting.

Good Point Norm, its just that I am slack and lazy and impatient. So it was probably blind luck that it worked... :D:D:D

I've had better luck with sikaflex rather then Lexel around my bungs. Had it on there for over a year and still not leaking.

Doug is an expert with leaky bungs, or should I say his doctor is. Its an age thing, just replace the bung and all will be fine.

I had a similar problem. I replaced the existing bung which had three retaining screws with one that had four. I found that the three screw bung flexed and maybe broke the silicon seal when you screwed in the bung. No problems so far.

Well

I had the boat moored at Noosa for the whole of last week and not a drop came in :)

But now I have another problem.

The bottom of my hull is now PINK. WTF happened(agro) I cleaned the normal scum off fine with the handy andy but there is a pink stain all under the hull.

Is the Noosa River gay?

anyone else had this weird occurrence happen....Doug?

Bleach, mate. Get the wife to do it in case it stings your eyes. And get the 10% stuff, not the watered down stuff you get in Woolies.

Why didn't you call in to see me in Noosa? Not everything on the river is gay, y'know.

Sorry dougy, the only time we went up river your way it blew a gale and I was kindly asked to turn around. And the ids wouldn't get out of the pool.

But why pink?

Nog, This article in today's local rag may explain things

Tell me, were your kids normal before they swam in the river? Any signs of them turning pink?

Seriously, I wonder how Australian authorities can continue to approve this chemical when it's banned in the rest of the civilised world? And if you've met some of the inbreds from the upper reaches of the Noosa River, you would see that it's done a fair bit of damage to the DNA already. Makes Tassie look quite normal.

Bloody Hell.

There has been problems in the river & the fish farm for a while now hasnt there Doug??

Doug
16-12-2009, 18:38
Yes, there's a macadamia platation next to the fish farm. They spray the nuts with this stuff and the bass fingerlings end up with two heads. Apparently some local horses have been affected as well, but got better when agisted away from the nut farm.

Terrible thing to be happening in Noosa - the so-called green city!

No Chin, but both my parents came from one.

Well the twins do like to kiss and hug each other, and as a matter of fact, one is starting to wear pink.

This eerily reminds me of the "Naked Bomb".

But personally I think it is a result of being downstream from pillow-biting carper-munching Noosaville types.(alco)(alco)(alco)(alco) "New emo"
