G'day all,
Firstly would like to say that this is a very impressive site as I own a 4.1 Challenger and absolutely love Polycraft.
Just wondering, I am planning on upgrading the 4.1 Challenger to a 4.8 Rear Center Console Brumby. Unfortunately up here (Noosa, South East Queensland) the 480 Brumby Rear Center Console does not have a good reputation. They have been classed as a very wet boat. I would love to disprove this rep myself but am wondering what your thoughts are on the 480 Brumby Rear Center Consoles. I have read a few reviews and they get excellent write ups but would love to hear first hand from fellow Polycraft fans.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Noosa

Most people would say the polycraft range as a whole are a "wet" boat. There are several reasons for this.
1. There size like all small boats tend to be wet.
2. They tend to have a better ride size for size to other boats & therefore are driven harder in bad conditions making them "wetter"
3. They dont have any spray rails to deflect the water down so in the bad conditions they tend to throw spray out up into the air & you then drive through it.

So it all depends on what you class as "wet" piratesign piratesign piratesign

Welcome NSF

Yep its a fact, the polys are wet. Due to the reasons Pete described.

The boys from Darwin have come up with an idea to fix the problem. If you look in the mods section, you will see the spray chines they have fitted to their boats.

Most of the displaced water then is deflected downward rather that straight up in the air. I think Geobec said in a previous post that it had reduced the amount of spray coming over the bow to about 20% . Impressive figures i think.

Its just a shame PC dont see the problem and make it part of the boat as standard.

Hope that helps with some of your decision

Can't say I like the design of the console itself in the 4.8 either, it seems to lean back a lot and take up a lot of room.

How are ya NSF

I must agree that the 4.8 is a pretty wet boat. I am in the process of sorting out spray chines for it but would not change anything else. I find heaps of space storage area etc. I have had no problems with the 75 Merc getting it up out the water and cruising at a respectable speed. I would have like the hydraulic steering but budget would not allow.
All in all I am happy with it

I am in the process of ordering a 4.8 RCC, and have ordered the 5.3 console as I didn't like the 4.8 console either. It will take up more room, but to me seems a much better design. It gives the driver, pax and instrumentation better protection. I also like the idea of having the throttle control behind the windsheild for cold mornings.

wow, thanks guys for all the replies. I agree that polycrafts are generally wet boats, but thats a small price to pay for such a quality hull. Just a quick question, regarding the 530 Console for the 480 Brumby, is this quite easily accessable? I only ask this because I am planning on buying the hull and trailer only then to slowly build it up from there. Hopefully I will eventually fit a 80hp 4stroke Suzuki. I was wondering if this would be enough power to get the boat moving? Sorry for all the questions guys! I will hopefully be of some use in the near future to members!
Thanks again.

I have a 4.8RCC with a 75 honda 4 stroke on the back and it goes 40kph at 4000revs. It is a bit wet when going accross the breeze or straight into it but how can you expect to go out into the ocean and not get wet? If we wanted to stay dry we would fish from the beach. The console could be a better design, but once again we are not paying big dollars for our boats. Overall the polycraft is the best outfit for the dollars we all wanted to outlay.

Just did some research and it looks like alot of people are putting chines on the front and that reduces spray by 80% they recon.
