View Full Version : Poly 4.55 rear seats
Hi,
I am a new member and wondering if anyone has put storage boxes into the rear seats of the 4.55 like what is done in the new 4.5?
I have seen some of the excellent mods to platforms across the rear roadd fishing platforms and live wells up the front but cannot see anything about a storage conversion in the rear seat pods. What issues would one face. Any advice appreciated
Regards,
Remy
When the 4.55 hit the market, that was the initial reaction. everyone wanted to put storage in the seats.
The biggest problem was worrying about voiding the warrenty with such a large amount of hull being cut out.
Second was the worry of reducing the strngth of the transom area but cutting out the top of the seats and putting a lid in.
I cant recall anyone ever actually doing that mod so I cant comment on the long term effects on the hull, strength and rigidity.
Thanks Dave. I did a search and couldn't find much on the topic but it seems useful space for light stuff like life jackets etc. I guess it would need to remain air tight yet be able to be accessed easily. The hull strength would be an issue if it fact does impact structural integretity. I wonder how they have stregthened this section of the hull in the 4.5 given the change to storage boxes etc.
Cheers,
Remy
It has been done, I just can't remember by who.
Another option is to replace the existing spin-out inspection bizzo with one which has a nylon pocket attached to it. I've got one, it's only really useful for storing small things like flairs, torch etc. I wouldn't dare put my car keys in there in case the pocket split, the keys would not be retrievable from inside the hull. doh
Hi Chin,
Thanks if you come across the thread or know who please reply or PM me.
Thanks,
Remy

I think that Jeff's 4.55 had covers in it from new when he got his.
Thanks Pirate Pete,
New to the forum - Who is Jeff?
Jeff if you see this can you post some pics of them installed.
I am thinking something along the lines of this.

Jeffr22 is his name on the site. Was from Tassie & moved to Brizvagus.
Had a yellow 4.55 but sold it. Bought a yacht & sunk it. Sold that & got a Yellow 4.1
Yes they are the type of hatch. I dont think his had a box built in but they would be better so you dont loose stuff in between the skins.
As for any mod you do voiding warranty i think you will find if you have a second hand boat there isnt one so it wont matter.
Thinking about it I can remember a pic on the old site of some hatches cut into the rear of the transom above the pods. I dont like that idea as it sounds like if one of the lids fails you could end up with water in them if you get hit from behind.
Yes mine is second hand and yellow (i am still coming to grips with that) front runner with accessories and a good package for a good price. Only about twenty hours on the hull and motor 2007 etc 60 hp.
Thanks for the update about warranty i had read some comments about this but i am yet to confirm with polycraft. I find it hard to believe that an untouched hull would be void by change of ownership. I haven't heard of this on any other product and haven't seen it on their website but maybe it is in fineprint somewhere otherwise i think they would have a battle on their hands. Eitherway one would question their loyalty to their product and potential future customers if they act this way.
Cheers,
Remy

Yes mate, it's difficult to handle having a second-hand boat. But having the best colour should more than make up for it. I'm sending you a teaspoon of cement. Swallow it and harden up.laugh1
Hehe.

Here are the photos of the mod on my 4.55 (when it was mine, that is). Hope this helps.
Sorry-still trying to make the photos work.
Will try again tomorrow
Thanks Jeff - links came through. I spoke with the Tasie dealer and polycraft and all is good. It looks like a simple mod and no structural issues provided my hole corners are arks rather than square points. I will try and source the cases noe from BLA i think.

Gotta love those big a$s photos, i still can't see much detail on the thumbnail ones even when enlarged. Might be me, can i make them bigger (anyone)? Oh and sorry bout the colour (yellow), looks like someone spilt something in the perfect mix (white) before it was tipped into the mould. laugh1
thanks Polyphonic
I reckon the pics didn't work because I registered on Photobucket only minutes prior to trying to link them so the account was probably not fully activated. Sorry about the hair you may have pulled out Barry & Pete.doh
And I'm glad they were some help Remy. :)
