Check out the Parrot Fish I pulled out at Pottsville, Northern NSW. I caught it in canal that only has a stormwater pipe access to the creek. I was surprised to see that these fish actually live in those surrounds.

Check out the pics

Good catch mate, like their colours!
There must be a fairly good flush from tidal water?
or do these live in brackish water?

Those canals hold some pretty decent fish, you would be surprised. Use live baits near the pipes that drain in and out of the ocean/natural creek and you will clean up. I've caught some pretty decent size fish in very odd varieties in places like that..

The canal has apretty good tidal flow through the stormwater pipes. Gets a flush at every high tide. I have heard of blokes pulling out 3kg Mangrove Jack and 3 - 4kg Trevally out of there.

I didnt eat the fish. I figured I didnt know what they taste likes so I put it back to catch another day.
