I know there are a few out there about to set up a 4.1.
Here is Prickles pride & joy from the old forum as a reference, its one of the largest mods done.

CONCENTRATE

So it's done ... bit a fine tuning to be done ... need to shift some weight to the right side on the boat (port side  ) The steering hydraulic line leaks but at least it's done
Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

A few pix from along the way.
The intention was to build a reasonably quick safe fly fishing platform .. Marie my wife is a fly fly fisher so I wanted to make it as comfortable and user friendly as possible so she wont get discourage by being uncomfortable etc
I did all the work myself except the bending of the aluminum tube and the folding a sheet aluminum. All the ply is 12mm construction ply finished off with a 2 pack finish. Aluminum was 20 x 40 mm x 3mm wall thickness. All the frames are sitting on 6 mm thick neoprene strip. The front deck is held in place by a bolt through the deck into the internal cavity reached through the front access hatch and 2 coach screws through the centre floor panel thingy

How it is attached to the boat floor

The centre deck is held in place by 4 coach screws through to the centre floor panel

The fitting of the console was the hardest part ... trying to get it level was tricky ... ended up sitting the console frame on six pads of builders bog ... frame is bolted down on existing bolt holes in the floor
console is a manufactured fibreglass shape mounted on to a folded frame with a structural self

Minn Kota wiring runs through the space between the front 2 wells ... runs through a tube which maintains the "air tightness" of the front of the boat

I struggled with ways to mount the flue tank .. ended up folding up an aluminum cradle that rest / held in place on the lip of the rear pod well

Rear deck includes a largish airtight bin for keeping things dry and out of harms way (cameras/phones etc). The small tower thingy serves as something to lean against in rough weather ... particulary if drifting with a drogue out ... the boat is square on tothe wavers so she can rock al little

The hatches are purely for access to more forward storage ... saw the yellow cutting boards 500 x 380 x 11mm and couldn't resist them

In summary ... was it worth is .. sure was : : What would I do differently
Probably look at leaving the whole centre floor panel out and replace it with an aluminum frame which would be the basis for the rest of the work
I'd like to thank everyone on this site for there advice comments etc along the way ... the site gave me the confidence to push it a little harder than I probably would have working in isolation
Thanks chaps & Miss Jane
EDIT ::: 07/01/08
Since then I have added a pair of hydraluic trim tabs which has sorted my balance issues and out of the hole in rough weather problems

nice work prickle. very swish console, any details on the manufacturer? do you plan on putting a screen on?
cheers roo
Hi Roo
I stumbled across the top of the console at a local marine shop that had them manufactured and was selling them for $50
Screen ... not real sure
Dave wrote:
How much weight do you think that you added with all the mods?
Hi Dave
It's hard to say how much extra weight has gone in ... I weighted the bits that I took off and they came to 24 kgs I probably put back in 40 kgs in decking + the duel batteries, minn kota etc   so she's pretty weighty

pickle that is one hell of a build and a credit to u, how ever may i ask a question rather than use a sheet of ply, 2ml alloy or even 3ml would have been a lot lighter and have saved weight all so by having the sheet folded u could have used a lighter frame, i can see from the photos that u are very capable of working with alloy :? :? :?
Hi Poly
To be honest I never even considered making it out of plate
As for the folding ... great idea but poly's ain't symmetric, square blah blah ... each piece is custom make to fit the space
But now that I think about it I could have used folded components in palces instead of the tube ...
To be honest and no dis-respect to any tradies on the site but it is pretty tough finding someone that will do a small special fold or bend a bit of tube ... in fact any small job that you want done professionally.
I have a couple of "spares" where someone says yep I can do that and then ya go to pick it up and you realise they were on a totally different wave length ... at least if i did it myself I can only beat myself up when it's wrong.
Finally I got a lot of pleasure out of doing it myself ... I know here the problem / weaknesses are and I can keep an eye I on them
Plus I wanted to prove there is some value in having a fine arts degree

If you've made a new main floor......did you remove the plastic moulded floor from beneath it? if not, why not? it would reduce the total weight a fair bit.
very smick mods here. i like the attention to detail.
EDIT: OOps!! i didn't go to page 2. Is the floor removed the 24kg you took out?
Hi Roo
The 24kgs are the 2 front hatch covers and the 2 rear pod covers .. I didn't take the floor panel out
When I was planning this I had the feeling that the way the floor was bolted in (6 substantial bolts) I figured that it had a structural role .. a bit later on "Landlocked" posted this mod - removed the floor panel and replaced it with an aluminum structure
If I was to go again I would take all the panels off and replace the floor with an aluminium structure ... that then could be a "level / square" starting point for the rest of the mods.
The way I've done my mods (4 modules) I could still take the floor out without a great deal of changes to the mods ... maybe next winter
I agree it would be an easy way to loose 10 -15kg by tossing it out ... see what feedback "Landlocked" gives on his mod over time
Cheers
Stuart
