Went out for a Barra session in my mates boat as it seems i'm not quite ready to barra fish with mine (live bait tank doesn't want to live bait for me, bigfella......) so we went in a inferior Quintrex boat to the east harding.

Missed my original creek mouth and ended up in the second one, no big deal just some new territory for me, it looked fishy with a few holes to sit the low in at about 2m deep. trolled slowly up the creek on the outgoing tide and on the third bend we picked up a Threadfin Salmon that nudged approx 75cm we didn't brag mat it as we had 4 in the boat and shit everywhere, things where looking good.

There was plenty of bait around so myself and Webby (pictured) went off to collect the livies, we got a few but they became scarce so all up about 10 whiting and 15 mullet and so we set in for a long session waiting for the tide to turn. 2 hours in and no hits on livies and for 2 of my crew who hadn't done this before they were not impressed that they are now land locked and cannot change spots, Webby and myself made the most of it and chucked lures at the snags and up the creek further looking for a Barry Mundy to appear, Baz didn't want to play the game though. Then the big blow came, our native australian mates decided to net the creek at the mouth on the outgoing, no biggy because there was nothing swimming past but still not good, they got very little anyway besides a few mullet.

The tide turned and my now dead mullet got smashed, as one we yelled out "Jump Ya Bastard!!!" it didn't happen but a 44cm Mangrove Jack appeared and spirits lifted but it was short lived as my other two fishos left me and webby and moved up the creek looking for some crabs and some action on bait, the catfish were hungry but not much else. It took forever for the tide to actually make it's way into the creek, it turned at 2.30pm and finally made it to us at 5pm but at 4pm our native mates came back with their net and got their cath, we could see plenty of big fish being dragged onto the shore which just gutted us, 9 hours in a creek and only 1 muddie, a good threadie and a jack to show.

We finally got enough water to trek out and so we decided one last troll, not muuch action to start but we hit the bank that the incoming tide hits hoping for some barra in the eddys and then BANG!! Webby is on, againg the chorus of "Jump Ya Bastard!!!" was sung, it didn't happen but was prepared to play dirty heading for trouble, but some slick driving with the tide howling in by yours truly had it out in safety and another jack onbaord at 45cm.

So really not a bad day but it was a bit of a Bones day in the end for the time spent out on the water, i put it down to three things: tide wasn't moving much so the barra where lazy, Full Moon and our native mates cleaning up before the tide allowed the fish to get downstream, oh and one more it was Dougs fault :P

here is a pic of the second Jack caught at 6.30pm rough trip home and it was dark when we got to the ramp. Next trip i hope i can suss the live bait tank out and take the PAV and leave the two whingers at home, maybe an overnighter with lots of beer, we only took 3 each, needed SO many more!

tight lines guys!
