Thanks Pete. 'Snot a Felty reel I'm afraid Doug, 'tis a cheap Gillies wildfish. I didnt know I was going to end up with such a fancy rod when I bought the reel. I'v been keeping a lookout for Feltys after your comments Doug but I havn't seen them anywhere. A feeenatical guest from the UK I've had this week recons the pfluger reels are good value for the money also... Even that little T-rev demonstrated the need for a decent sort of reel, but I can not justify spending the sort of dosh for a Tibor or the like.

I actually have a Tibor, but it was given to me by a grateful patient after I extracted him from a fishing trip back to Bamaga, and saved his back if not his life. Not many grateful patients in my career, but I enjoy the Tibor (actually it's the HUGE one that only works on my 12 weight, but hey - it's a Tibor!)

I have an Abel which is disappointing and a Loomis which is actually my favourite, plus lots of those cheap American ones, which do the job but aren't noteworthy.

If you're after a cheap but sturdy reel try Lamson Velocitys', they do more than an adequate job. About $300 landed if you use fleabay.

Nice Trev.
