View Full Version : Motor install
ok guys the motor gets installed on my 4.1m this coming week. A few people have pointed out some issues with water leaks etc due to poor installs. Here is a pic of my transom with the plate removed. What exactly am I looking for or making sure they do correctly when they do the install?? Cheers guys. Be easier to get it right the 1st time.
The deepest part of those 4 rectangular "holes" or indents is solid plastic.
At that point the inner and outer skins "kiss-off' as polycarft put it.
If you can get the 4 outboard motor mounting bolts to go through those 4 indents, you won't have to worry about sealing anything, as water can't leak between the skins via the bolt holes.
Unfortunately the holes in the outboard mounting bracket will dictate where you have to drill the holes through the transom, and they may not line up with the 4 indents.
I don't know about the 4.1, but on my 4.55 the 2 upper mounting holes lined up with the indents, but the 2 lower holes didn't.
Any holes drilled through the plastic that DON'T go through the indents will need to be sealed up. Best place to seal is where bolt meets plastic, rather than try to seal the entire aluminium plate to the transom.
