True Doug, I am bored. I have days off and its pissing down. I am so bored in fact that I am imagining you piloting one of these. Im sure that back in the 70's, you would have been living the life of a wealthy cosmopolitan physcian... greasy hair, big lapels, bigger mo. I could just picture you with a pair of gold platforms and a euro mini RV. What were you doing in the 70's Doug??

"What were you doing in the 70's Doug?? "

Keith, m'dear chap, I was keeping Britain safe from the commie bastirts just over the border in East Germany. I was also drinking to excess and chasing nurses. This was all before Mrs Doug came along and put a stop to 50 % of my foibles. You guess which 50%.

I suspect you were still on the breast, or a figment of your parents' imagination?

Not even a figment my man... for the majority of the 70's, my oldboy was still polishing his platforms, greasing his mullet and cultivating his moustache in the hope that I could one day become the sparkle in his eye. I recon you would of been playing the part of the rogue MD; cheeky nature, boyish charm, windswept and interesting with a razor sharp wit.... I picture Hawk Eye from MASH with a high British accent, polished uniform and bad hair cut. That explains your dry, droll humor!!! Nice one Doug!!!

My imagination always ran more along the lines of Dick Stuart-Clarke, from doctor in the house, always one step ahead of stiff shirted old professor Loftus.
Reality proabably more like Reg varney, and Blakey...I'll 'ave you for this Butler.

It's interesting that string of abuse above. If you take the trouble to read the book MASH, (not the film or the TV series) there is a very interesting character who is British AND THE ANAESTHETIST. He is somewhat droll, very cynical (about both the Army and surgeons) and the unsung hero of many surgical adventures. I believe we have a common bond.

Dick Stuart Clarke was also an anaesthetist in the tv series, and of course all the "Doctor in the House" books were written by an anaesthetist, who also wrote some very good books on the history of anaesthesia.

I know, I know - I'm just a boring old phart (like Barry!) but I've been around the block a couple of times, and seen some sights on the way.

"I know, I know - I'm just a boring old phart but I've been around the block a couple of times, and seen some sights on the way."

Hmmm... lost and looking for home,
never seeing the same thing twice,
and meeting lots of different people all the time.
Not the onset of (sic) "oldtimers" I hope???

You're a cruel bastirt, Threadie. I'm going to send Barry round to rough you up.

Threadie - that name's familiar. Do I know you from somewhere? The clinic maybe?

"That's actually Doug in the video. "

I'm almost scared to admit it, but I did have a VW Beatle about 1973. Can't recall the caravan, but then a lot of the 70s passed in a haze...............
