Guys

I have brought this across from the old forum so that we can keep this foremost in our minds. Its ONLY 6 months away now so start making your committments and plans if you are thinking of attending.

It would be a good idea if we can all COMMIT to this by FEBRUARY 2010 so that Bones and Geobec can book accommodation for us and we can secure them with a deposit.

Your comments please...

From old PBO forum by Bones (Greg)
I have not spoke to any one about this just started typing tonight and stuff the literacy This may be a bit forward but a decision needs to be made so here we go.

Originally post started as at Jul 30th, 2008 by Dave, 95.5% of respondence have voted yes to June/July 2010.
This may be a bit forward but here it is Final Date 2 Jul to 11 Jul 2010 this as close to matching all state/Territory school holidays as possible. I fully understand that this won’t help some people but now we have a date so families can plan and save.
Find below a list of pers that have shown interest in attending the 2010 PBO from all the post, but don’t be disheartened if I have missed you from your post to add to the list this is a starting point only and hopefully will grow.
Kapitain Kustard, Pirate Pete, Dave, Doug, Chip,Bigmark,Dave,Learjohn,Whitto,Geobec,Wombat,Ra tfish,Squizzytaylor, Jeff22, SB,RFRO1509, AndyPearson, Jabiru658, PontoonBoy, Polyboy, Tipsy McStaber, BbayJohn, Thisis gonna,Poly,

This could equate to about 46 pers if all 23 members brought their partner. From Pontoon Boy Trade displays from invited suppliers? (manufacturers, engine suppliers, accessories suppliers), without the numbers I don’t like our chases to getting major groups to front for a small number. I would think we would have to look at a minimal number of 50 plus to have any chance to get a rep with his display to show for any reasonable time.
But in saying that this is not gospel but may help our conference??, (really a fishing get together but don’t tell the girls), if and when we have it the more ladies/famalies the better.

I will be having a meeting shortly with a club vice president and the committee that should be able to support up to 80 pers for a function and possible secure site for poly’s, we may have to pay for a security guard as the 8 foot fence and gate will only keep out honest people. Also this may be suitable for someone with camper trailer to stay at to cover the security and cheap accommodation, just food for thought.
The Dwn club may also be able to round up some members to organize a few outings in the NT, members boats to good fishing sites, and I recon a small fee to cover cost and a few beers at the club Bar wont hurt either. http://www.polyboatowners.com/pboforum/images/emoticons/bananadance.gif

Im currently developing an program on the basic format as to how we will all make this PBO conference happen. Many minds make ideas come to fruit so I will be asking for support but i will in no way be responsibility for stuff ups in any way shape or form. I will let my head swell when things go right.http://www.polyboatowners.com/pboforum/images/emoticons/0423emo-messbrasil.gif

Just some early house keeping, I cannot satisfy ever body but I will with your help give it my best attempt.
I posted many web sites for the NT back in Aug 08 on this post so check that out also. More info should be forth coming when Geobec has his get together with the Darwin PBO crew. But I have started this myself to kick it along.

Transport: individual responsibilitiesAccommodation: individual responsibilities. The main suggested site maybe Hidden Valley Accommodation Park, this is central to both Darwin and the outer suburbs, and just off the main highway. Check out the web site Insurance: individual responsibilities (this is to cover any miss adventures of any type, no one individual should be held accountable if we are having a simple get together and nor should they) I would not know were to start to raise insurance.Program: Their will be a basic format of a get together at the start and finish both to meet/ greet and then tell big tales of the adventures we all had. I understand that we all would like different things but most have only spoke over this great site and personnel I would like to thank many people for the support over the last 5 years.State representatives: this is to start the ball rolling to get people to pool for the travel up, maybe travel together on the flight or drive up. Also you may be able to organize heavy transport to move your Boats up at a cheaper group cost, and then only hire a tow vehicle.Charter booking and costing: I will source this as the local poly dealer (so this may work in our favour) he has a 2 large charter boats and one other have the main charter vessels for groups. Fishing equipment: individual responsibilities, unless some one knows a good rep to supply rods reels and alike for members. Im willing at this stage to have equipment mailed to me and stored so members don’t have to lug large amounts of luggage whilst traveling on flights.Sponsorship: This would be far from my forte, but may I suggest we get someone onboard to maybe do some shirts and also help with grog, food and alike for the 2 functions. That or either some one run an account to gather money to cover cost of BBQ to help the meet greet be a success. Or we simple cover cost by every body sending the treasure (Hint Hint!!!) some set amount to pay for the function at least.Major events: Darwin will be in the start of a major boom as the new Billion dollar gas plant should have commence to be built in 2010,(3000 works so the rumour goes) this may put a strain on accommodation, however government media reports suggest the company will build their own accommodation camp site. That said it is also the dry season and a major time for visitors.
Well its getting late and I will speak to Dave and ask for a locked post so I can place the instruction on and adjust over time to keep people informed. This will be an ongoing beast.
I would say if we don’t confirm that we have this function locked in by Dec 2009, then all stand down. That way people can organize trips, flights, boats, save as of now and this will give each individual amble time to recover cost if all falls through.

Feel free to PM me with your details and email address so we can start the ball rolling, by at least talking to each other. I should be available most reasonable hours, and don’t mind having a chat at your expense. Please remember the time difference for Darwin.

Just remember we had PBO members suggest this in Jul 2008 and by Aug 2008 the plan was nearly set in stone but lost momentum. Im old and forgetful so heaps of help guys, I will not do everything and refuse to. So if things get to much I will only too happily stand back and move on with life. I hope this has not upset any body as its late and I hate correspondence to a group. I do prefer speaking to individuals either face to face or over the phone.

Cheers Bones

Hi guys I have had a change of plans. I now wont be able to make Darwin. :(

Instead of taking 2 or 3 weeks of long service leave in July I am having at least 13 weeks off next Dec through to Feb next year 2010/2011. This will give me a summer holiday with Miss Jane & "The Orphan" at the end of her year 10. Hopefully we can meet up some where in the future.

will have to put this one past the minister of finance but i may make a brief appearance without the PAV as much as i'd love to tow it to Darwin for a fish for a week, plenty of leave but spending too much money on responsible things

Shame it isn't a month earlier, in June. Jetstar have sale fares at $139 one way, compared to 'normal' sale fares at $209 one way. Regular fares are $409 one way.

I'm unable to create a poly conference that I believe the members need and would be proud of, and with my changing personal circumstances will no long have the time to monitor the PBO conference board for possible suggestions and request. Ive had a change in my life that will need so sound attention and with that I bow out of the Darwin conference as lead person.
I suggest that a new EAST Coast location that will give members/families easier travel, accommodation and a possible more central to many members.

I sincerely apologies for any inconvenience that this may have coursed.

The distance Cost and timing are I believe the greatest factor that has limited the response from many members.

Maybe a couple of teams from the PBO crowd could in the near future raise and entry some teams for the barra nationals held each year around April. It is by invitation only however I maybe able to point members in the right direction.
And as Bigfella knows I can look after the odd southern and have them leave with a very memorable trip.

Cheers from Bones and family

New life hey Bones, good luck, hope it all turns out well. You are a crap fisherman but not a bad bloke!

I'm sorry that Bones won't be instantly responsive to my officer-like orders, but the ADF is probably better off without him, just as they were better off without me!

Just a suggestion, and I have no intention of being the organiser, but have you thought of Hervey Bay as a possible venue? I've had very experienced anglers describe it as the best fishery in Oz, within three hours drive of a capital city. Probably the majority of our members are East Coasters and a majority of them are QLD and the majority of them are SE Qld.

Accommodation in winter is reasonably priced, available and adequate. The whole region is set up for anglers, with ramps, tackle shops, guides etc. The fishing is incredible and the waters are safe, although not to be taken lightly. There's alternatives to fishing for the ladies and children, the weather is generally kind, and I am led to believe that alcohol is sold by several hostelries in the area (or so they say - I wouldn't know).

Many more people would find it a reasonably priced trip (which Darwin never was), the fishery is good to better, and .....well I can't think of anything else other than it's sort of in the middle of the country and it's too far away for Dave to attend.

I have been sitting back waiting for the masses to digest the comments by Bones...:)

With teh current economic climate, we could have two meets spread over the year. One in Newcastle (camping on Bigfellas' front lawn) and another one up near to brisbane.

That way it would reduce the financial load on those that cant travel too far, but would also allow those extra keen ones to go to both?

Thoughts....?

G'day Fella's,

I take my hat off to Bones and Geobec for initiating the Poly Conference! Big effort guys and a huge thanks!
I am starting to lean towards Dave on this one.
Why not have a couple of get togethers per year rather than one big show every year or there abouts?
Better chance for the masses to get to at least one, if not two for the lazy buggers that have the time and cash!!
Darwin would have been an awesome experience, but the timing, cost and logistics were going to be hard to conquer!
I am extremely happy Newcastle has been put up as a possible destination.
We have excellent facilities here, the waters of Port Stephens encapsulates some of the easiest and accessible waters in the country!

Then you have Lake Macquarrie with inshore boating and some great flatty spots and lets not over look Chin, Bream Reaper, Squizzy to show us the hot spots!
This was always going to "our" get together, stand up guys and gals and let the powers to be know what "you" want!

Now listen here, young Bones, just because you're a civvie now don't think you can get lippy with me. I'm still the boss whether you like it or not. In fact an LAC probably outranks one of your generals.

Look out for the rolling pineapple!
