I finally have updated the old 50 hp 2 bangger Yammy, for a 2007 4 stroke 60 hp Yammy. This should vastly improve the old 4.55 a bit.Have not picked it up yet though,I hope the bolt holes match up between the old and new donks.

Nice one Giffo, we run yammy 60 4s on one of our boats, they are a brillient reliable motor, easy to maintain. when we repowered, the old motors had 2000 odd hours on them and still ran quite well. And you won't even hear it running compared to your 50 twobanger.

We put a Yamaha 60HP fourstroke on "Ibis" the big heavy pontoon houseboat. Before we "governed" it for Joe Public we thought we'd just open it up and see what happened. You ever seen a pontoon houseboat on the plane? Terrifying, it was, so we put a bolt on the console to stop them opening the throttle too much and put a barge prop on. That slowed 'em down.

Only problem we ever had with it was with the trim/tilt hydraulics. You had to know just exactly where to hit it with an "adjuster, large for the use of".

Shouldn't you be working, Keith?pointlaugh

All our yammis do that with the tilt from time to time, if you can hear the relay clicking when you try to use it then its the brushes. A new set of brushes from memory cost about $270, or that could be each, I cant remember. Whenever it gets bad I just remove the pump motor (sometimes a royal pain in the bottom to get to the back bolt), crack it open and give the armature a good scrub with a wire brush, clean out the grooves, give the brushes and brush housings a rub up with 1000 sandpaper (sometimes its just one brush getting stuck), maybe a spray with rp7 and a wipe off. Put him back together and forget about it, until the next one goes, then I do it all again.
I am surprised that yours had probs with that Doug, I thought ours went because they have such a hard life, up down up down, down, up. shallow beach landing you know.
Anyway I still recon that they are an ace motor.

It's not my problem any more Keith, and you're right, we hardly ever tilted the motor. I think that's why it clagged up. "Don't force it - use a bigger hammer"!

PS. I can use smaller words if you're finding it all too hard, but Miss Jane will be disappointed with both of us.

Looking forward to the report on how she goes with the 60 on Giffo

Ah ha! Our big boat did that once on one 225, during a prolonged period of bad weather.

And no, of course I dont want you to use smaller words, every post is a challenge for my semi illiterate mind, check it out:

The dictionary is for when you use the big words, the thesaurus is to find my own big words so I seem smart, and the radio is to call my missus if it all gets to hard. I'v got reading your posts sussed!

I think Miss Jane would be proud

Try drinking from a tinny mate, you've either got beer or you haven't. None of this worrying about half full or half empty stuff.2thumbsup

I hope to have the motor in a few days Pete,it is a second hand 2007 EFI model but will be a huge improvement on what I am currently running.I have been told to expect a lower top speed, as I now get 27Kn WOT with the 50 2 st.A bloke I know, has a 100 Yammy 4 stroke and a 40 2 stroke on his boats, and on a identical run together they used the same fuel.I hope the bolt holes are the same also.

Nice one Giffo. I am amazed that the bolt holes are the same, we have just repowered our barge with 9.9 4s's and even they dont have the same bolt holes in 5 yrs. A mate of mine just repowered his 5.5m dinger from an old mariner 2st to a new yammy 60 4 st. He used to go out to the reef using 40l (which is fairly standard) he now uses 9l !!! You will notice the difference.
Nice investment mate, stuff the hole shot.

Some critics argue that the happiness of different people is incommensurable, and thus a felicific calculus is impossible in practice.

I always thought 'felicific calculus' meant you had a hot maths teacher and were constantly working out ways to get 'felicific' with her.....laugh1

back when I was in high school anyway

Indeed pete you are quite correct in your statement, it is in deed incommensurable to give the happiness of other people , but that is not the question, is it
