View Full Version : Extra long to long shaft
The 60 4 stroke yammy I have just purchased is a extra long shaft off a shark cat, and I need a long shaft. It looks like a spacer in the leg can be taken out,but I need to shorten the drive shaft, gear linkage and water pickup I suppose.Does the drive shaft and gear shifter just push into a spline up in the motor. So my next question is,how long are the long shaft bits and how hard is the whole operation.I can cut and weld the shafts with stainless wire in the Mig myself.
Pontoon boy where are you ?
The penny dropped in answer to one of my questions ,in that the shafts need to be shortened by the length of the spacer to be taken outdoh.I could not see the forest for the trees.
Best way to fix this problem, is to get rid of the motor you dont need & get one that works for you and not against you.
P.S get yourself a Etech and fix everything in one go LOL:D

"Get yourself an ETEC!" Love it!yippy
Although I would imagine the motors would have interchangeable shafts? You may even find they have extensions fitted to off set the spacer? Best take the leg off and have a look see Giffo? 2thumbsup
I just got rid of a 2 stroke and don't want another (an etec)laugh1. I can't raise the motor as the steering arm will foul on the hull,so off to the dealer to fix I suppose, as I have been told today it is involved.
Well I got the motor back from the mechanic, all shortened up.What a difference it has made to my boat. They had to shorten the drive shaft, the water tube and take the power-head off to shorten the shift shaft.Very happy with the outcome. They also gave it a service and changed the impeller at the same time.Hope the weather gods are kind to me now.
At the end of the day you probably did the right thing by getting a mechanic to do it Giffo.
Would hate to see you try it yourself and come up short. laugh1
