As soon as I saw Starling's name, I lost interest. One of nature's really nasty people.

Really? Probably my favourite fishing presenter, along with Bushy. Nasty in real life huh?

Yes do tell Doug, I found him quite pleasant when I met him during a few beers in Kalbarri many moons ago, pleasant enough to have a quick yarn with a certain drunken young fool with bumfluff whiskers and a budding beer belly at least.

Thank you for posting the site. A great article on the trip to North Queensland. Some Great practical advice, just wish I could afford 8 weeks on the road

I had the most serious misfortune to be stuck with Starling on a SW fly fishing competition in the Bay of Islands in the North Island of New Zealand some 10+ years ago. He is the most boorish, self opinionated arsehole of a man I have ever met. He has tickets on himself; he is a big man and uses it to threaten people, he casts big, but by dint of being a big, strong man, not through any skill. He is an ex school teacher with only a passing grasp of grammar and the English language.

I heard on a reliable grapevine recently (I know quite a few professional SW FF people) that he was given a comprehensive hiding by the husband of some woman he came on to at a SWFF event. He couldn't appear on tele for some weeks after that.

Bushy, on the other hand is an officer and gentleman - I'm at a loss as to why he mixes with Starling, other than for the money they make together.

Well there you go ay, I wouldn't have guessed. I had heard very similar comments about an associate of his and had thought that Starlo must have been the nice guy.

I must say that all the fishing journos I have had dealings with have been great blokes. The last guy that came up here was brilliant, a really genuine fella and great fun to yarn to. Keep an eye open for the article it should be out soon. If all goes according to plan we should have a TV presenter up to try out the new Brumby when I get her... hope he catches a few fish.

I guess theres often a difference meeting people on a personal or professional level, I myself am lucky enough not to have any type of personality... nor friends... but at least I have my missus, and Doug, to point out my character defects pointlaugh!!!

Yes, your missus and I often discuss your character defects. It can last until the wee small hours sometimes. ;);)

There's a few professional guides/journos that I wouldn't breed from. They all have short arms and long pockets when on a trip. They usually travel for free at your (hidden) expense, and they don't plan on buying a drink along the way. No names, no pack drill................

"They all have short arms and long pockets"
True enough my man, short arms, long pockets and big mouths... some of them handy, some not so much. I just do my routine and try to keep them all happy. When you come up to visit Doug, you'll get the drift.;)
