Has anyone got a live bait well in their 450 poly? just wondering where the best place to put one would be and any idea on price.

Thanks,
Rhys

My boat is a 4.55, so not sure if this will work on a 4.5 as they don't have the pods.
Outside the boat is the best place for it, then the overflow can drain straight into the water, and nothing sloshes into the boat from the tank. Also it doesn't take up valuable space in the boat.
My tank was given to me by Squizzy, but came from Bunnings and was quite cheap.

Quite so Rhys. No Gentleman would have a Sulo bin strapped to the back of his boat. I suspect Chin uses it for his empty bottles and not for bait.

well i best get some spelling mistakes ready for you to pick on.

now i think its time to get back to rissile86's little problem, thats if he hasn't lost interest by now, mate I don't think this has been done yet so i guess that makes you a pioneer.
From what i have seen of the 4.5 perhaps one of the rear bins would make a good spot for a live well, there is one made for the 4.1 that may just do the job.here is a photo of one fitted to a mates 4.1,, polycraft list it as a rear storage box to fit 4.1and 4.5

seen that one, not bad, do you reckon you can mount the legs to the floor? thinking of removing the rear centre board, this way it shouldnt get in the way of the motor when tilted up. Legs would need to be about 1 metre long i reckon

Unfortunately, the pics have disappeared; this was one of the reasons we had to change the forum software 'cos the database of the old one was corrupted in some way.

Rhys, i checked the old forum for those photos. Sometimes I can access them in admin mode but unfortunately as Barry said they are gone?? Not sure where. Kinda just vanish... I wonder if I could import mother in laws into it... would make a lot of blokes happy

Yes, it is a pain, i decided to take the easy way with the live bait tank, i did really want it in one of the rear hatches, but i had no real idea on how to do it, and neither did my local shop, I am happy with the result though, and i can take it off to give it a real good clean. It also takes up no extra room where it is now.

Next project is to get some better lighting in the boat.

Yeah Rhys looks good mate but thought you didn't want the bait tank hanging off the transom :D

I don't think you'll be sorry you put the tank where it is rissile.
You will notice the extra weight when it's full, but it's not a problem.
The only thing you may need to do is put another drain bung in where you can get at it easily from inside the boat, you will want to empty it as soon as all your live bait is gone.

My Bait wells are also my live wells for fishing tournaments. We have found that if you keep the fish in the dark & also out of the direct sunlight, they keep longer & with alot less stress. Just some factors you could look at when selecting a tank & to keep your bait longer.

Cheers

gave the live bait tank a real good test last night. Got to my bait spot and put a few livies in it, not a huge amount as I wanted more dead then alive. Then I headed to the snapper grounds, half way there, i turn around and go have a peek at the tank, and guess what........?

It was gone..........to my amazement, it's bounced off the quick realese bracket full of water and gone into the drink never to be seen again. $300 down the drain. I almost cried.

Geez, that's a bummer; an expensive one at that!

I suggest you sue Chin, who said, "I don't think you'll be sorry you put the tank where it is rissile." (see above) Never trust a diesel fitter. doh

well it seemed secured, it was on like a sliding bracket, so you could life it out for cleaning. the boat place had made the same system for like 50 other boats and this has never happened to them. Just unlucky i guess

Aw, look, if you had it done "professionally", I'd be going back to them and suggesting they make a significant contribution tou your next one. I would see it as more than just bad luck.

Reminds me of when I was 11 years old and spent a week making a crab net, threw it off the jetty after forgetting to tie the rope to the railing...all I could do was walk home after a very brief visit to the jetty. (Console)

thats almost exactly like mine is chin, it was fairly choppy last night, which must of caused it to bounce out, like i said it will be a permanent fix next time, it won't be falling off again. It was not a nice feeling seeing the brand new bait tank disappear thats for sure.
