Hi everyone, new to the forum. I have a 5.3 Warrior (and a Tuff Tender) fitted with a 2 stroke Johnson 115Hp motor and I'm finding it drops off the plane as I'm slowing down for rougher seas etc so it's flat out or keep adjusting the throttle. Has anyone fitted a hydrofoil to the motor and what improvement re rev's have been noted.
Thanks in advance.
Paul
Hi Paul and welcome
in rough waters you will find that you will need to adjust the throttle continuously to give yourself, pax and boat a comfortably ride and reduce stress on all components (including pax).
It depends on your direction of travel in relation to the sea state, wind and wave direction as to how much you change RPM. To set and forget the throttle and just bash your way through the seas is not the best seamanship. In some conditions, I adjust the throttle for each wave.
You will find a hydrofoil, permatrim is a good investment for the boat. Easy to fit yourself and will make the boat stay on the plane better.
The poly is a heavy boat and needs that little bit more support to stay ontop of the water at slow speeds.
You will find that the boat does drop off the plane in rougher water due to the change in COG, boat shape on the water etc.

Hi Paul & welcome aboard
I have a 5.3 Cuddy Cab with the same motor. You must be pushing into some hard stuff if you are falling off the plane at 3800.
I have thought about both a perma trim & trim tabs but havent ended up fitting either.
I find my 5.3 seems to like being above 17Kt to really sit on the plane nicely (but I just cant seem to remember what revs that is doh doh )
Maybe you are running a different prop to me.
Paul
look at prop as well, pete could be right, do u get full revs- u should get 5300 -5500 RPM at WOT(generalish rule for 2 stroke), 4bladers can help with that low down pick up after closing throttle to hop over big ones

Yea Thanks for the comments. A friend at work has suggested I get the prop pitch looked at as well. I joined the Volunteer Marine Rescue six months ago and will ask the mechanic we use re this issue. I'm inclined to add the hydrofoil as well. I normally run north of Peel Island in Moreton Bay and it normally blows up in the afternoon. Whilst I keep adjusting the throttle and trim I'm finding that backing off for the rougher waves for a safer speed drops it off the plane real easy.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks once again.

Hi all.Just joined the group.
Paul, you will remember me as I used to live a few doors away from you.I had the polycraft challenger at the time.in the Easement.
I have now bought a tuff tender as I remember seeing you skipping across to panikin Island in yours and had to get one.
I reckon the addition of a hydrofoil will work wonders for your problem.I have had similar troubles in the past with various boats and it is the rough weather where the problem of dropping off the pain at a slower speed than preferable that seems to show it up.I have always added a hydrofoil and seen a great improvement.Hope you are having fun with the warrior.
Hi All,
I saw somewhere that someone had posted a file to down load with modifications done to his Tuff tender.I think their name was whitto.Any Idea where I can find it?If I google Tuff Tender Modifications the top result id=s polyboat owners.com fresult but I can,t review or download the file that is there.www.polyboatowners.com/pboforum/view_topic.php?id=1496..
that is the link to the page.
Unfortunately, that link is to the old, corrupted forum. In November last year, the forum database was corrupted causing it to lose a number of posts and pics and we had to change to new software.
