Hell broke loose today when I reversed my boat up the driveway using my 4WD tray top which has a canopy installed. On approximately 90% steering lock the trolling motor fouled the rear canopy vertical support member resulting in breakage of the trolling motor shaft and damage to the pivot release bracket, NOT HAPPY JAN!
Done the same process a million times with the old craft without mishap because I mounted the motor on the centre line axis of the boat.
There are other issues with a trolling motor mounted off centre that I identified yesterday. At low speed with Auto Pilot engaged the boat doesnt track straight although conditions were dead calm.
Major rework on the positioning of the motor today, it is now as close as practical to the centre line axis of the boat. Repair of the motor is an issue for tomorrow.
