View Full Version : Lake Macquarie
Just to prove I do actually have a fish from time to time, caught this 80cm Kingfish in Lake Macquarie today on a live Tailor.
Nice looking fish chin, shame I cant say the same for the prop!
good to see there are still some around down there

Top looking fish Chin
Nice Kingy Chin, whats the marks on his flank from?
Cheers,
Snowman
"whats the marks on his flank from?"
Chin uses a labrador to retrieve the fish. That was after the family cat went on strike.

Is that after he has used the "expanding bait' to "catch' them?
No landing net, a very blunt gaff and an equaly inept gaffer Snowman.
I was amazed to see a big school of Kings busting up a school of small chopper Tailor. The one I caught in the pic was the minimum size of the fish busting up, some were quite a bit bigger. To see them porpoising out of the water in a lake was an awesome spectacle.

Well done Chin
I caught a similar sized one in March on live squid.
The Kingfish are back in good numbers in the lake .
Seems like you have found a new way to catch em or "match the hatch" as they say.
Doug would appreciate that!
Cheers John(spudweb on the old forum but accidently logged in as myself!)

Nice fish mate.
Cheers

Nice fish, good eating size. Kings are making a slow comeback in a few places, but I doubt they will ever get back to the size and numbers of the '70's. Lake MacQuarie has some good fishing at times.

I think it's fair to say Lake Macquarie is fishing as good as could possibly be.
It's really come into it's own in the last couple of years after recovering from the decades of commercial fishing, which is now banned.
There are Flathead everywhere, some monsters too. Last year there were some huge Tailor caught there, we're talking BIG. Whiting, Bream, Jew all plentiful. The Kings are going off at the moment. Then there are all the bizarre ring-ins from the tropics, attracted to the power station hot water outlets.
I'm only just starting to appreciate how lucky we are to have the lake here.
Couple more today, and a Maltese guy and his son fishing near me having a ball with 4 each, all caught on poppers.

I was too busy laughing at the size of that guys landing net to take a good pic. :D
Took my son out last Sunday, he rarely comes fishing with me, life for a 22 year old is far too interesting to spend it with Dad. Until now!!

Great Fish Chin, well done old mate! Just one thing that often goes untold and that is the seriousness of fishing! I mean, check out the look of tension and deep thought on Chin's face!
If that aint the face a serious fisho, then nuffin is aye!(whistle)
You mean that tall streak in the straw hat Glenn? That's my son. :)
