42 lb Cobia

Well last night in the chat room, I said I was going out fishing this morning and I would regale you with my catch.I went out at about 6am in the Burnett River and cast net some bait and headed outside about 5 ks from the river mouth.I dropped the anchor and set out a livie (pike) on the down rigger and a few floaters(pike) out the back.All was quiet for about 3 hours, and I had a good burley trail going behind the boat by this time.I was getting hungry so I pulled the pick and wound in 2 rods when the floater out the back went off.At first I thought it was a turtle, as it pulled like a D9 dozer,but then I felt a slight head shake so I persisted.After 1 hour, and a call to a mate at work on my mobile on speaker phone, so he could hear the drag screaminglaugh1, I had it in the boat.It bent my gaff on the first two attempts,this just made it angry and it dove for the bottom again:eek:. I was fishing alone,rod in one hand and gaff in the other,bloody difficult.When it hit the floor of the boat, it jumped all over the place with a Mustad 3.0 and a stinger treble hanging out of its mouth,This was on a wire trace I made on my new Haywire Twist tool DougyippyyippyI nearly fell out of the boat trying to keep my feet out of the way of the hooks.The Cobia went 42 Lbs,Happy Days.

Geezus Giffo! what a doozy!Lucky you did keep your feet out the road of those hooks, you'd have a hard time on your own with a stinger in your toe and that barstard stuck to the other end. Congrats, good chewen.

Thats all I have heard to day is big fish . . . . . . . . . the boss had 3 days tuna fishing & came back with 4 30Kg fish plus a 100Kg + Monster. It was all he could do to lift it. The "V" in its tail came up to his chin with the tuna's nose still on the floor. He stands at 6' 4".
