What I want: Polycraft 4.5 Drifter Open, 60hp 4-stroke with 60hp compliance plate (like perfectpoly has).

PMs haven't worked to some dealers, so just posting this publically; however at this stage perfectpoly's boat might be the one. I'm just doing the math on a brand new boat to see which option to go with.

Boat, trailer, motor, safety gear please. PM me and let's start talking business.

Drifter.

Drifter,
the reason some of your PM's have not resulted in quotes rolling may have to do with there not being the large margins some customers "think" dealers get to play with in Polycraft boats!

As a dealer I get messages requesting prices and that "quote to beat all other quotes" for that dream boat!
I have even had emails requesting prices that were sent to every dealer on Polycraft's web site, why?
Why do you expect dealers to haggle between themselves for your dollar?
Why dont you pick a dealer whom can supply the boat you want and "work" with them to achieve your goals?

I dont sell cheap boats, I supply quality boats!
Quality comes as a standard!
Standards come with a price!
That price is what the item is worth!
Nothing more, nothing less!

So if you want a boat with your custom requirements, send an email to your chosen dealer 'cause it aint that hard!

Happy Hunting.

Bigfella,

It's a retail industry just like any other, If someone wants my business they will let me know.

Good on the bloke who shopped around, probably saved himself hundreds!

Let's agree to disagree.

I'm not a dealer, Drifter, but I have to agree with BF above. The price you get for your dream package will vary by no more than a few hundred dollars amongst your local dealers. What is FAR more important is how the man you buy from will treat you DURING AND AFTER the sale. On this board we've seen some shocking evidence of boats fitted out by dealers who were negligent or seriously ignorant of their trade. We've heard stories of rip off servicing charges, poor servicing and again, ignorance of the boats and motors. How will he deal with you on warranty issues?

The few hundred you save on the purchase will be more than cancelled out the first time you have a problem, or even take it back for routine servicing.

I'd be talking to local PC owners and find out who they deal with and how they have been treated.

I was in the industry for 8 years (renting boats, not selling them). Frankly I wouldn't want you as a customer with your rather arrogant attitude. There - I've said what the Big Fella was too polite to say. Sorry! Maybe you and me will have to agree to disagree too?

Thank you Doug for articulating what needed to be said, dealers like Glenn are rare to say the least, and if i do go ahead in the years to come and up grade, sun shine pontoons will be the first to hear from me

Hey mate, I will say after putting a 4.5cc together myself that the most important thing is getting a motor locally to build a relationship with the people servicing your motor. The hull and trailer can be got at a 'discounted price', but for me it was more about getting exactly what I wanted. I've been working on it for nearly 2 months getting the electrics done, decks cut etc and until now I never realised how much work is involved just to get a boat ready for the water. I'm up to about $24k including the materials, a Minn Kota saltwater Terrova with inbuilt iPilot and Lowrance HDS5 with Navionics mapping and thats not including the amount of man hours myself, TimD and a sparky friend have spent refining certain areas. Would I do it again? ... damn straight I would!!!! Good luck with the purchase drifter.

Perhaps things have changed in the last 3 or so years but when I purchased I got a quote from just about every poly dealer in NSW . Prices varied as much as $5000 on a 455 side console on a trailer with 60 2 stroke and no accessories as I chose to fit out the boat myself.

Matt, you've probably drawn the distinction better than I have. There's not a lot can go wrong with the boat, but the motor is a minefield.

Thanks Matt,
Good luck with it all mate, a mate of mine did the same and doing the electrics saves you $$$.

Exactly what I'm seeing so far Squizzy, so why not shop around? I do agree about getting the motor locally, might do a fit out myself if I don't buy perfectpoly's which looks awesome.

Thanks mate.

Thanks Doug but I'm not arrogant mate, I just believe in shopping around and try and save money where I can. In saying that, there's been some good advice on this post and if I buy new, I'll choose a local dealer with good service etc for the motor and fitout the boat myself.

By all means shop around, but factor in the things BF and I suggested. Buy where you live at the end of the day, or start taking outboard mechanics at nightschool.

Thanks Doug, wise words indeed.

I noticed you post on ex-military forums, what service mate? I'm ex-Army for ten years.

Cheers,

Ditto for me, I have purchased a boat and trailer 350kms away but the motor will be fitted by my local guy who I trust 100% to maintain it for the 5 year warranty period and beyond, and knowing if anything breaks that he will go out of his way to rectify the issues. Things like set up of sounders and electric motors etc can be done by yourself not only to save a bit but to ensure everything is put exactly as you need them. Do you have any photos of your set up fishmarket as I am setting up a very similar boat soon,(drifter c/c, new lightweight 60hp suzuki, 70lb minn kota and 998 side image), Cheers.

60 more screws to go ... they soon add up. Should be up by next week. I was going to get a 70lb leccy but the 55lb should be good enough for slow drifts and spot locking reefs etc. You may want to measure that 998 ... not sure it will fit up on the console. Mines pretty cramped with a 5".

Hi Matt, on the gimble this sounder measures 290mm in width, can you please check for me if this will fit inside the supplied screen as I have not yet received my boat and I have not yet ordered the sounder. Cheers.
