Hi Guys
Can someone tell me what the boating regs in Vic are in relation to safety jackets. I seem to remember that you have to wear them all the time even in closed water but not having taken the boat south of the border before I thought I should check.
Also what are the good comfortable inflatable PDF's I don't want to have to wear one of those cheap foam jobs all day if it is a requirement.
many thanks
Keith

I dont know about the Vic regs but here in Tassie any thing under 6m you have to wear a PFD1 whilst under way.

We all have Stormy Seas auto inflates like the one Miss Jane has on here.

I started out wearing a Stormy Seas "Fly Angler" vest (see profile pic) with the auto-inflate option but I found it was a bit heavy (too many fly boxes and other bits 'n pieces in the pockets) so I now wear a Stormy Seas manual inflate yoke all the time (even when I am not underway) which complies with TAsmanian regs in those waters defined as "sheltered".

I went for the manual inflate option so that I can wear it when I am wading in faster flowing creeks as well. Won't inflate if I just stumble but I can inflate it (hopefully) if I need to.

BTW, I don't think there is much difference between the different brands of yokes with regard to comfort. I have worn a couple of other brands as well and I have no particular preference.

We have 3 "E-Tec" manual inflate yokes as well as the boat is rated for 6 if we take other people they use them.

Cate & I use the yokes when we go kayaking as they are so light weight.

thanks guys
I found the vic marine safety web site and downloaded the info I need. The safety gear needed is different to that in NSW you are required to carry flares 2 red 2 orange and a fire extinguisher plus all the other bits needed in NSW so I will be doing some shopping when I get home. I do not see any point in scrimping on safety they will not go to waste in NSW c
