Hey guys, just wondering, have noticed in photos for boats on this website that people have carpeted there rear and front hatches.

Just wondering if they carpeted over the poly insert lids or weather they made up plywood ones to carpet. If you used the poly ones did you use glue or what, to attach the carpet. does glue stick to poly?

I didn't think the glue would stick that well

(my rego numbers only lasted 4 trips out, don't think the dealer worries about preping the poly before applying, would take it back to him but it would cost more in fuel then buying new numbers)

I think I might make up some plywood ones, it will do a better job.

Contact adhesive works fine ... i did my ex 4.1 and they are still stuck down fine .. didn't even clean them .. be careful when you put the carpet to hatch as the bond is almost instant.

for the numbers and rego
heat the bastard -300 dg seems the go
clean with citric acid/ acetone works as well -be carefull will eat plastic if left on it(acetone)
stick

for the rego just stick next years over the previous one
btw for small vessels rego decals can be fitted inboard on both sides
well in WA we can at least teh water doesnt just rip it off then

prepped mine as above stickers stick like sht to a wool blanket

Having a quick look at mine, I would say they came ex factory glued with contact adhesive.

As far as fixing my annual rego sticker, I just stick it one of those rego sticker holders you use on a trailer and just screw it to the boat (or just use of the screws along the bottom of the wind screen to hold it in place).

I put a false floor on the back of the forward casting deck ( if that makes sense ). Used a ply then carpeted with marine carpet. The product i used was from bias boating and it was called "magic". Also have used another product available from good old Bunnings, that was "Kwik Grip". Not your normal kwik grip but an upgraded product suitable for where water will constantly come in contact with the surface.
