Well, Ive done it!
I applied Sharkhide protectant to the out side of our recent acquisition, a 5.3 Front Runner!
This is destined to be added to our small fleet of hire boats here on Nelson Bay.
The whole job from start to finish took approximately 15 minutes and used around 250ml of product.
Cost wise was about $20.00 (Sharkhide)plus $6.00 for a roller / tray from Bunnings!
The boat is destined to be fitted with a 115 (black curse) and should make for interesting challenges if nothing else!
This will be the first and so far the only high horse power vessel for hire in Port Stephens, yes there are other boats, but none are moored ready to hire 7x days a week!

The pics attached show the "shine" that we ended up with, apposed to the usual dull satin finish of poly?
Now it takes on a gloss look very similar to fiberglass! Very impressed to say the least!

There are a couple of you Gents whom were going to do your own "trials" on fiber glass and even some dull plastic owners!
Get to work gentlemen, I need your feed back!
Feel free to visit www.sharkhidesalesaustralia.com.au for additional information or sales.
I also need to get some much needed sales, so endorsements and recommendations are most welcome!

Certainly looks good Big Fella; I guess it's a bit early to ask how long before you need to re-apply it?

That 5.3 positivly gleams.

How much to do mine . . . . I don't have time with all this fishing that Miss Jane is making me do.

Hey BF, I've still got the pot you kindly sent me, but before I put it on my Poly, how do you recommend I pretreat it? It's a bit like Mrs Doug - the shine's gone off it.

I have been doing some prelim trials with poly and so far I would expect to get 2 to 3 years before I need to reapply!
Having said that though, if there is an area, say your favorite spot to get in and out of your Poly then you can reapply anytime really!
Preparation is as simple as a good wash and make sure the surface is dry then roll away!:D

The best thing you can do Doug is a good wash with your favorite detergent, let it dry for a while and roll on with a small high density roller. These cost about $6.00 from any hardware store.yippy

Well Pete, you get Miss Jane to give you some pocket money, or you can untie the corner of your hankie and cash in some of those old brown coins you have been saving! shock
Then visit www.sharkhidesalesaustralia.com.au and order 1x litre.
That will be enough to do your 5.3 two or three times!(pirate)

Funny you should post this.
Today I got a chance to get near the boat to give it a good clean up and was dissappointed at the condition of it.
It is stained and very rough and dull in a lot of places now.
I was wondering how I can clean it up and give it a bit more life... it looks like an old tinnie at the moment.
I will get some sharkhide and give it a go and let you know

Do we order this through you Big Fella?

BigFella
15-06-2010, 07:24
Yes Learjohn, although we were appointed Australasian distributors last year we didnt want to start advertising properly until we knew it was going to do the job!
We have been using the product for three years on our pontoon boats, but only started trialling on poly about 8x months back!
I have done my own tests and am very happy with the results!

You can order through the web site or send me an email, I will send you an invoice with relevant details.

Tell me about it, the Marina where we conduct our business are Merc dealers and they very cleverly tied us in to mercs for the first batch of boats?(agro)
After that however, its Etecs all the way baby!yippy

Meantime, you have a source of "Black Anchors"? I do hope you're not conning that innocent young lad Keith with a Merc? He's gullible, but not totally stupid. (OK, let me think about that)

Poly, how can you be one third anything? I can live with a quarter or an eighth, or even a sixty-fourth, but a third? Don't like to quibble but we Scots are opposed to interbreeding. Unless there's a bit of incest involved here?

I learnt a long time ago that price only becomes relevant when you have doubt about the product?

Lets brake it down here, 1x litre costs you $88.00.
The 5.3 Warrior in the photo consumed under 250ml of product.
That equates to a material cost of $22.00, and about 20 minutes on a Saturday afternoon.

Now personally I think for under the cost of a carton of beer if you can have year round protection and enhanced looks for your boat is value plus!

No matter if it,s an older glass boat, a new aluminium boat or your trusted Polycraft, $22.00 for three to four years protection, I'd pay for that!yippy
