Completely safe, happens when you freeze them sometimes, possibly frozen twice? If they have any black in the flesh part then use them for bait.
If you catch them fresh, keep them in a bucket of salt water then drain and freeze them when you get home, shouldn't get black heads/tails.
Cheers.
They have gone into the bait freezer now, they were caught, put in the esky with salt water, then frozen. We don't want to take the chance of food poisoning.
Looking at your avatar, Giffo, I don't see how a few rotten prawns could make your condition worse?

black heads and tails are actually ok, but ANY black flesh and use them for bait. trust me, I'm a queenslander ;)
did you not put them on ice quickly, or were they able to thaw and then refrozen? that's what black heads/tails usually means.
cheers.
p.s. nice call doug!
