View Full Version : Using the new front page
Just wondering who is using the new front page
www.polyboatowners.com (http://www.polyboatowners.com)
and do you find it a good place to start?
If so I will use that to update info as it comes in

I never used to but I like the new home page. ;) ;)
Must admit that I hadn't looked at until you mentioned it. I will bookmark it and use it as my "entry point" for a while. May decide to keep it as such because at this stage, it looks good.

The new one is easy and just bookmarked it
I am the same as the others, I wasn't using it, but I will give it a go, and see if I want to keep coming in this way or not. Good job it looks good and seems to be functional as well.
I like the front page. One small issue - the 'Recent Threads' section is too long. Goes from the 6th to the 10th. I hate scrolling down when the rest of the page on the left, finishes. Just my thought, for what it's worth. :)
I thought that the rest of the news items was visible but forgot to throw the switch.
You should now be able to see the other news items as they are posted which then sorts the problem of the recent items list.
The reason it is that long is due to the number of posts that will be made once the site fires up to normal. Saves going to look for new posts.
Dave.
on the new front page, you have articles etc in the centre of the page. When I click on the "Read More' I get the message that I do not have permission to access those pages. Problem with the script?

Are you logged in at the time KKW??
Yes. It says;
"kkw, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

That about does me. . . . . . . We will have to wait for Dave
I do qualify as a member. Bought a poly burley bucket yesterday and also a paddle with a poly blade.
Was interested to read the article about increased checking of tinnies and other runabouts. Heard that some fisheries/msb guys were gung ho on boats having 2 plastic buckets with lanyards, waterproof torches and charts of the waterway you happen to be on at the time. Common sense has been feeling very poorly lately and it looks like it may die one day soon.
arrrr... the joys of new software.
I have fixed it. Changed the permissions. Trouble is with making changes in the admin mode is that I can see everything and everything works. I occasionally forget to log out and then log in as a member to check for correct settings.
Should be working ok now
well i do now Dave, it looking real good
Nice one Pete show that you are right on the Ball mate.
well i have taken a long hard look at the new front page
did you know that you don't have to log in to use the shout box!!!!!!!!!!!
members profiles can be viewed with out loging in, that is a member that has logged in will be shown at the bottom of the page and there profiles can be viewed by an outsider
are these good things or bad things ????????????
Paul
Paul, my mum always told me to never do anything in public that you would be ashamed of... so dont write anything norty in the shoutbox..:D
With this new forum software there is no restriction on registration so if someone wants ya info they just register and then have a look.
Personally I am not worried about it, what do you guys reckon?

Hey Polyholics
Great front page Dave, the old one was more like a pedestrian crossing,,, glance sideways then full on through!!!
Now however, it's slow down stop, read the information at hand and then idle on through to the good stuff!
Great concept and even better content mate, well done!
I like the new front page Dave, especially as my boat is top of the owners pics :D.Doing a great job mate.
Cheers

Dave,
wanted to post a pic of my boat, but the same old ""kkw, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation." message comes up. That .php sounds like a drug - Oh wait, that's PCP.
Sorry kkw, I have had a look (and compared it to others) but I can't see any reason why you can't post pics. It will have to wait for Dave.
Barry.
it is the 'News' thread, where Dave asks for the 'Boat of the Month' pic. I guess because it is under the Administration tab, we can't reply. I may have misread the post and should put my pic in the boat thread.
Barry Klaus, i just tried to post in that thread and got the same reply.
now all we have to do is get Dave out of his office.
Paul
:(:(:(:(
If you read the post it says
"...send me some photos and complete a Post in the My Boat Showcase forum ... Once a boat has been selected, it will be posted on the site, well a photo of it, and a link to the forum post will be displayed."
So do what it says.....
and NO you cant post in the News forum as that is for very important admin type people like me pete and the Baz!
It might read like I am being a smart ass or condescending but I want certain parts of the forum to be a reference with appropriate information in it rather than the shambles that we had created in the old forum.
That way when poeple are researching specific things, they have the information at hand and dont have to wade through heaps of posts putting $hit on poor Doug!
I am sure you can understand that, the rest of the forum can go on like we have been doing for the past 5 years or so. So feel free to heap it on Doug where ever else.
Barry.

Yeah, that would be the reason (I was looking at your profile to see if that was restricted in some way).
I don't think Dave has got as far as "publishing" a mechanism to nominate for "Boat of the Month" yet. Perhaps it's an oversight on his part - he seems to have been very busy in "The Office" lately.(whistle)
Oops, on re-reading Dave's "Boat of the Month" post, he HAS given instructions. Post details (including pics) in the Boat Showcase Forum (see link below)::D

There is something about CO2 emmissions but you are ment to cut them back. . . . . . .

I like to think of it in terms of tennis Doug, i.e. return serve. (Console)

Go on admit it Doug... you love the attention... If we didnt do it anymore you would wonder what the hell was going on! :D and it would knock out over half the posts on the forum... what would happen to Petes post count then?
