Hi guys looks like i've been good this year, santa has promised me a permatrim for Christmas :D. Just putting it to you guys on the forum to see the positive & also the negative sides to this decision. I have a 5.3 bowrider with a 115 e-tec on the tail & have been wrapped with this combo but would love to be able to plane at lower revs & hopefully pick up a few k's per tank.
Looking forward to your opinions guys.

What speed do you get out of the 5.3 with the Etec on the back Polyphonic ??
I get 34Kn or 62.968Km out of my old tec Johno.

Sorry Pete i'm not real flash on stats but just checked the gps. Last trip was 104nm at max speed of 32kts, havn't got any figure on wot, i usually sit around 3800 to 4200rpm. More concerned about fuel so happy to sit around 22 to 25lt per hr. Will have to flatten it next trip out & see what happens.
Thanks Polyphonic

i'd be interested to see how the Permatrim goes on the 115 and 5.3m i was thinking of getting one myself for the low speed on the plane

You have been ripped off Santa is a fake and she (Boss Lady) meant you can have a new pearl necklace, to go with the BMW roadster she wanted.

Bones
Santa gets whatever he (or she) wants around here. Truth of the matter is "Santa" makes more money than me so i have to believe in such things. Anyway did you have any opinion on the actual purpose of the post?

Not really but from experience have found that the motor position is very important. Found this out asking the same Q many years ago when first got the poly. I only have a 4.5 so maybe a whole new ball game for you.
I use my trailer lowered at front and undid motor bolts then wound front of boat up to correct height of new holes the tightened. Did the same for Geobec and his poly. Both vessels improved.
Cheers Bones

Yeah Bones did the up & down thing with the motor till we got the best hole position really happy with hole shot, top end & general handling just drops off the plane too quickly when conditions aren't too favourable so hoping to correct that with the permatrim. Is that your boat with the wing on the yammy or just a candid shot over the neighbours fence?

some guys may hate me. i have been a fan of this site/polys for some time, but ended up with fibreglass due to my economy. i have fitted a permatrim that ironed out a couple of small issues. i believe that the design is so good that it should enhance any boat/motor combination. good luck!
Naw Bill, we even have a bloke here who has a tinny. 'Course we ignore him....................(whistle)
Can you post a pic directly behind your boat, with the motor trimmed out so that it is inline with the keel? IE, photo taken so its staring down the keel.
Mine is a 4.55 with a 50hp which in all honesty is underpowered slightly for the boat.
With 3 on board I had trouble getting on the plane. Now I have fitted the permatrim, its a totally different boat.
Gets up and goes without any hesitation with a full load
If you are not happy with the overall performance then the permatrim will iron out the deficiencies.

Definately worth checking your engine heights. I have a Permatrim on my 5.99 and I have redrilled my transom and have my engine one hole higher than maximum. About 12 months ago I made up a jacking plate that will put the engine 100mm further back and allow me to adjust the height quickly and easily. Havent got around to fitting it yet but it will be interesting to see if it changes the performance at all. I will have to pull my finger out and get it fitted.

Hi Andy hope that's the money shot. What do you make of that?
Thanks Polyphonic

if permatrim were needed, they would come fitted as standed & can b dangerous. Motor hhght & corect proping should b looked at first. A 4 blade prop gives fuel savings and a slower trawl/plain speed.

If God had wanted us to fly he would have fitted us with wings and not arms.
Didn't realise that planning thing with the 4 blade prop BBJ thanks for the input (when i first asked All members)
