Can anyone tell me what size rego numbers have to be on the side on a 4.1 boat in qld?
not sure about width but they have to be 200mm high, HUGE
Hey there Polymack
Have a look here
http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Registration/Recreational-ships.aspx
Registration symbols
Your ship will be allocated registration symbols. These must be clearly visible in plain characters in a contrasting colour to the hull of your ship.
The size of the characters depends on the type of ship and must be able to be read from a distance of 30 m away:
•ships not capable of planing must have characters a minimum of 75 millimitres (mm) high on both sides or on the stern
•ships capable of planing must have characters a minimum of 200 mm high on both sides
•personal watercraft registration symbols must be:
◦displayed on both sides
◦at least 100 mm high
◦easily seen while the craft is underway

Unreal!
Thanks for that guys, got it sorted!!!
I make custom rego numbers if you are interested. I have been told of the perfect vinyl for polycraft too, which I am about to try out.
andy thats the way i am going next with the custom rego numbers, polyfolk correct me if im wrong but after reading that info it sounds to me like i only need letters 100mm high because it is a personal watercraft, i always have hated the massive big letters.
just realised personal watercraft is jet ski's. oh well when i do the custom stickers i might get them shrunk a little, see if i can get away with it.

hey andy
do you do just numbers or are you able to do a sort of graphic?
im after something like this.
gotta have em might aswell make them look good
I can do anything! Almost. I have a wonderful machine here that can cut out vinyl. I have been told that oracal vinyl is the stuff for polycraft.. The machine lays quiet these days because I am too busy with my primary business, but I am more than happy to do the odd job.
I can also do printed graphics, but the cost is very expensive compared to vinyl.
Polymack, all that stickers on that boat bar the wilson look like diecut vinyl, so yeah, I can do that.

I will call the supplier on Monday and get a price on oracal vinyl and let you know. I have been meaning to follow up on this stuff because I need to do some new numbers for my boat.
Problem with the stripes like that is you need to use a large amount of vinyl. The material is about 600mm wide, so you end up with a bit of wastage. You will be able to get both sides done in a single piece. Still, its probably going to be a couple of hundred dollars worth of material.
Got a price on oracal 751 vinyl, $11+gst per metre, so for 2 colour sticker, your looking at near $30/metre once you include app tape, just for material.
To top that off, a sticker that size on a faux clinker hull will be a dog to install, so the services of a sign writer are highly recommended. I cant see the design real well in that photo, but I would cut the rego number and stripes as seperate stickers, this would make things a whole lot easier to install. Doing it that way would also mean you could cut the foward and stern parts of the stripes for boths sides on the same piece of material, reducing the cost by 1/3rd

Thats the go for the Vinyl Andy .. 751 Cast is the best choice ... Avery also make a cheaper version (700) which works out to half the price. I had mine cut at Sunset Signs (South Brisbane) for material cost as I know the guy. Pretty easy to install once you prepare the surface correctly. Sticks like shit to a blanket and worth every penny.

I use avery cast for all my jobs. Its pretty good, but it has let go on my boat. I also have an ecofishers sticker cut in crappy multifix vinyl that is doing much better than avery. With the mutifix i did not clean or prepare the surface either.
Avery 700 is not much cheaper than oracal, 9$ per meter +gst
