hi guys. noticing in rough weather i'm getting a fair amount of water in the fore bilge compartment. Where the hell could this be coming from as when it's calm there's not a drop? Does this bilge area get fed from water splashing onto the foredeck, or over the sides? It's confusing the hell out of me? Unless it's leaking in from the rear bilge near the engine through the balancing tube? Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers,
Ado

Not sure about the 5.3's but I used to take water in around the winch point in the bow of my 4.1; sealed it with Lexel and haven't had a problem since.

I cant remember what style 5.3 you have wrassinator but in my Cuddy the only way I can get water in the big bin in the middle or the 2 smaller ones either side is by putting it in there with a bucket or by leaving the bung out & 3/4 filling the whole boat between the skins.

Hi wrassinator.
Is your 5.3 a cuddy? Because like Pirate Pete there is no way I can get any water in the front bilge of my 5.3 cuddy. I don’t know what configuration the front-runner or central console has up the front.

Give us more info on the layout at the front wrassinator?

sorry boys 530 cuddy cab. winch point looks loose, but no sign of water in front bins at all. there is a balancing hose connecting the rear bilge (engine well) with the small kill tank/fuel tank well. In between those two is the fore bilge with a pump. This is the one getting water in it. All i can think is that maybe the balancing hose, or it's flanges are leaking water from the engine well into there? Noticed problem when I bought boat, then replaced the hose and it was fine. Maybe it's happened again? Guess I will check. thanks guys, appreciate it. ado

Hi All Sorry about late intro but i also have a 530 cubby on a 6mtr trailer and find that if left out uncovered when it rains water makes its way to middle well. In rough conditions this water is forced forward into the forward compartment.Wrass in rough weather install centre bin bung or make sure to remove bungs and drain boat at ramp prior to launch. hope this helps. Ah worked out what area you are talking about, that’s where the bilge pump is. Make sure your bungs are lubricated with Vaseline or similar to stop them leaking.

The small kill tank on the starboard side of my 5.3 drains down in between the skins.

thanks guys. welcome columbus good to hear from another sandgroper poly owner. may try installing a bung to the balancing hose and see if the outcome is the same. Agree about the baitwell Pete ! might be onto something there as a potential source. thanks

In rough weather any water getting onto the deck will end up in the bilge area. I glued some plastic baffles onto the flat area to the side of the cuddy, just back from where those beer bottles are in your photo.
It makes all the spray draining from the cuddy go back into the sea.

agree frank. They are JD bottles mate !! lol. Have witnessed all that water washing down the cab and into the boat also, will have to do a similar baffle. Got any pics of this mod handy? Maybe even a bead of poly weld would do the job?
