Mate I've got a 130 honda on the back of mine and it goes fine! Won't be setting any open water speed records that's for sure, but it does hop onto the plane very easily and is a pleasure to drive, just lacks a bit in top end speed is all.

I have a 5.99 Centre Console with a 140 2 Stroke Tohatsu (TowHatShit as Dave puts it).
It goes really well - top speed of about 55km/h - rev's out at 5300rpm (is rated to go upto 5700).
I was a little reluctant with the two stroke at first and asked alot of questions of the previous owner. I was happy with his response and brought the boat.
Now - still happy with the boat. The only thing that annoys me is the getting it up on a plane - I still haven't mastered that yet. There are a few additional comments to add to this - we tend to always fish with a crew of us - min. 5 adults. And the max of 8 people is not uncommon - plus esky's for 8 and bait and food... the term "refugee boat" is often flung around when we arrive back from a day out.
But still the boat goes well with this many people (when i get it on a plane) - 45km/hr is achievable.
Saying all this - when the 140 2 stroke dies (or I convince the minister of internal affairs to hand over some money) - I will buy the max rated 175hp 4 stroke - Brand, likely to be a Suzuki. But that wont be for another 5 years or so.
Would be interested to hear other members comments on getting up on a plane.

I have a 599CC with a Honda 130, it gets on the plane no problems but I have not tried it with 8 people, that is a fair bit of weight. The only thing to try is trimming the motor in (down) and trying that, it was the only way to plane my old Stessl trihull. Other than that a peratrim to hold the bum up, some people luv em some hate um.

Hi Firstpoly.
Your 5.99 with 8 people on board is a lot of weight for a 140. Dreamin’s suggestion will help, or getting most of the weight forward before you take off.
Your future choice of a 175 Suzuki four stroke is the way to go.
