Hi guys,
I'm picking up my poly in Noosa, in approximately 5-6 weeks or so. Then I'm taking about 10 days off while I drive/fish to Cairns.
So.. where do you recommend for a 4.8cc poly?
So far, I'm thinking about not fishing from Townsville north (ie Hinchinbrook), as that will be fairly accessible to me anytime, so I'm thinking about fishing Yeppoon and maybe Bowen. Then maybe shoot through to Cairns, get settled and head up to Cooktown for a few days.
Your thoughts? Thanks.

You could chase some Goldens / Gt's / Tuna around Hervey Bay ... Mark Bargenquas guides up there ... I'm sure he could give you a few pointers for Fishing the Fraser Coast.
1770 would also be on my list of places to stop just cos I love the place ... from there I would head West to Lake Awoonga for a bit of Barra fishing.
Last stop would be Shoalwater Bay for some Popping for Gt's.
Plenty of other places to stop but depends on what you like fishing for. I'm sure you will have a great 10 days ... don't forget a spare set of Wheel Bearings.

Thanks Matt,
Harvey Bay might be a good option... want to keep in the salt, so will give Awooga a miss...maybe..
Don't bother with Bundy ,keep going to 1770/Bustad Heads.The start of the reef in Bundy is a long way out (15mile) and we rarely get good weather.
"Don't bother with Bundy".
I would never have credited Giffo with so much insight. He should, of course, have added, "Especially the Fire Station", but then we all knew that, didn't we?
I can recommend Bargy at Hervey Bay. Lovely guy and a great guide, even if he did sell his Poly. Worth the money; try him at http://www.fraserguidedfishing.com.au/about.html

Just like the kid that was born without eyelids,When they circumcised him they used the skin to fashion eyelids.He was cockeyed but had great foresight !laugh1
You're anatomically confused, Giffo, even for a fireman.

The best fishing will be around your new door step like hinch, cairns,reefs wrecks creeks why dont you take a week off fishing your new area.

The Minister for Finance, War, Justice and Recreation wants to see QLD between Noosa and Townsville. I do too, but I'd much rather see it at 100km/h; have a couple days fishing around Hinchy, then head to Cooktown for a week...
I have been out-voted it seems. We will spend a lot of time around Lucinda etc in the very near future though.
So far we're thinking
Hervey Bay (stay with family)
Kinka Beach (near Yeppoon, not Kinky Doug)
Hideaway Bay (near mudcrabs...errrr...Bowen);
Taylors Beach (near Lucinda...only I'm thinking that at this stage);

Thanks mate,
I'll do the same for Cooktown, should you decide to head up that way for a fish. Just need to spend a couple of days wiring some spots when I get there. XS reds for sure.

thanks, have been reading a lot of reports though, such as fishing cairns blog and the barra netters have hit the daintree hard (BASTARDS). still, i plan on hitting snapper island (off cairns) a few times to look for nice spots.

Sweet, thanks Mitch.
Will return the favour if you come up to Cairns area.
Thinking of staying at Kinka Beach, heard much about it? Looks nice.
Kinka beach - Not too bad, but expect to drive back to the harbour to launch the boat. Most of the way along the coast there is an alright place to stay, good views etc. Just remember the mozzie repellent.

well house is under offer :) we have a 4 week settlement, so we'll be seeing you soon Giffo (if you are in town).
Keithy, definitely a visit to your river before the wet season, a priority once we touch down in Cairns mate.
if anyone else wants a fishing day we'll be staying near gladstone and bowen and at hinchy on the way up
cheers!
