Six of our shift from work went on a charter out from noosa (Noosa cat-cha ).
We left on tuesday morning 6am and headed up to the bottom of Frazer. All the guys but me started to drink as soon as the boat left the dock,i drink but that is just madness as we would be fishing untill luch time on wednesday. The weather was not to good but turned even wose . We started to fish and this was awsome they baited your hooks ,took your fish off the line and untangled your lines ,not alot of fish was caught (but alot of piss was drunk) you could see some of the guys start to turn green and go real quiet.Heaps of under size red emperors,we ended up moving a few times and just on dark the wind just blew its ass off ,fishing with one hand and hanging on with the other. One by one the soldiers died only to get up for a spew and a piss what a waist of $400 bucks. At about 8pm the fish just bit there heads off, there was 2 of us and the skipper fishing, every now and them someone would get up and have a fish and then back in the cab. We ended up with 78 fish (25 snapper about 5kg each, some big pearlies ,stonker mosses pearch ,big parrot heaps of trag jew).I was absolutly shattered by 6am,the other guys came out of there corners we had breaky and the call was to go back early.
The crew filleted the fish for us ,great couple of guys. We went back to my place to share out the fillets, the talk was when are going to do that again these guys are glutten for punishment.I only took a few pics which i will put up when the boss comes home tonight.
Cheers Steve

I like a beer just as much as the next bloke but thats just sheer madness in my book. You pay a fortune to get into some good fishing & then waste it by drinking.

& from the reports I have read if you are drinking & fall into salt water the effect is the same as having triple your blood alcohol so hypothermia & all those other problems you get from being in the water (in this case maybe even in the dark) just got a whole heap worse.

I still have a beer when fishing but only when Im on my way back home to the ramp.

Sounds a great trip SB,The charter bloke must shake his head at these blokes that waste a trip, but I suppose he still gets paid. Thanks for the offer to go,and I am disappointed that I could not make it.

I'm not a big fan of that company, Steve, altho the crew seem to have done the right thing by you guys. I think you might just have struck a drinking club rather than a fishing club. It's remarkably common in Qld. I had the same problem when running the houseboats.

It would have been a lot worse if Giffo had been with you. I'm thinking engine room fire just for starters..........

I don’t understand how heavy drinking and fishing go together. Most charters I’ve been on have had a group of them. A few years back the son in-law and I went on one down the Gold Coast. It was a 5 am start and when we got there, there was a group of guys with a big esky, all drinking rum and coke. It didn’t get rough like your trip Steve, so their “sea legs” were never put to the test.

I enjoy having a good drink, but it’s got to be on terra firma for me. Not out on the water.
