I was registered to the old site years ago, but when I started building my own home, I dropped boating off my to-do list. Well, I'm baaaa-ack...

Luckily the Poly 4.55 Cuddy sat out in the burning northern sun for two years waiting for me. Still in prefect colour, and in great shape. Do that to a fibreglass and see how the Gel-Coat goes.

House is finished, and my attention has turned back to the 11 year old bright yellow beast.

I've had this miniture boat up tiny saltwater creeks, and 40km off shore past Holbourne Island. Out in 20 knot following seas, to smashing back 40km through 15 knot driven seas, it's an amazing little boat. The fibre guys panic about getting to close to the rocky little islands up here. Not me, poly bounces off rocks, at slow speed of course. And once there is chop I love pushing the Aluminium guys to the point where their smiles turn into grimaces.

Just stuck a new Suzuki DF60A on Wanakraka. (see motor forum)

At work I'm a Instrumentation/Control Systems/computer guy at a Coal Port, and I love my gadgets.. And anything that makes sense but isn't mainstream, which is why I like my Poly..

Will be actively pushing the poly platform in the Bowen area... And they despise change here :) More fun arguing for me..

Greets to all my fellow poly owners.. Would love to catch up with other owners in the Whitsunday region. PM me and we'll organise something (which will involve amber ale).

Cheers

Gday Mick, not to many of those cuddies about. You will be popular with the coloured brigade. You are right about the poly in leaving behind the Tinnies,I did just that to a mate in his 4.5 Tinny a few weeks ago,he just could not keep up outside so I had to slow down for himpointlaugh, this was after he was bragging that his boat was faster than mine in the river.laugh1

One other major tip,an old fart called Doug lives under the bridge on this site, believe nothing he tells you, and you can always blame him, because its always his fault!laugh1

Cheers and welcome to the nuthouse.

Hi Mick, good to have some new blood here even if it is old blood from the old site, and an old boat with a new motor. Who's confused? Who cares? laugh1
Let us know how the Suzuki goes, I'd like to upgrade from the 50.

Any Poly owner with a Suzuki DF50 1999 to 2010 shoud look at this upgrade soon before the DF50A comes out (might already be here)

Cause Suzuki is lifting it's four stroke to another level... Once everyone figures out the difference you might have trouble off-loading your old df50 :)

On the 4.55 Cuddy I got a new compliance plate rated at 60HP.. So I'm all legit..

Have a search around the net and in the boating magazines for articles extoling the virtues of the new DF60A... It may be the most expensive 60HP out there, but I reckon Suzuki will gain a greater market share with it..

I got my upgrade for $7.5K fitted, and because my df50 is from early 1999 I had to get a new remote control. (round plug, not the modern square plug)

Cheers

Thats with the trade in taken off the price of a new motor?

What is the out right cost?

You would notice a huge difference with the 60. My cuddy is slow with the 50

Yes, including a new remote because my motor was pre-june 1999, otherwise I could have keep the old unit. Have kept the old analog trim gauge (which never worked), cause I don't need the new digital trim gauge. If I want to know the angle of the dangle, I look over my shoulder.

What is the out right cost?

Somewhere over $12000. Damn expensive, but hey I think it's the best 60 out there by far.

10HP, bigger prop, better acceleration due to gearbox... Yeah it's transformed the boat..
If I wasn't such a bloody ugly bastard, I'd put up a piccie of my hugh grin while at the wheel.

So you just contacted polycraft and asked for the 60hp rating?

Jeez, Mick, as your medical advisor, I'd say you're looking in the wrong direction.

I think there has been a change in the way the Australia Standard calculation from hull length (waterline) to HP works.

But yes, I just contacted poly with the question about revised hull/hp ratings, and got the answer I wanted to hear.

Inside the Port Security Zone where all small boats are are banned...

Yep sure have... Well, boating at least... I class fishing as where there is a likelihood of fish being caught.. USually no chance with me :)

Night time is fun is there is no Coal boat in and your lower the shiploader boom down and blast the surface of the water with 4000Watts of high pressure sodium lighting.. Poor squid get absolutely smashed by GT's and Turrum.

Do you get out to the shoals very often? I made the run up from Airlie a couple of weeks ago and we bagged out on Nannygai.

@pommy-git
No unfortunately not..
Mainly due to lack of oportunity working 5 8-10 hour days a week..

Need the right conditions in a 4.55 to make the run out.. It's welcome to blow up after that.
I've got the marks, I've got the boat, just need the time. :)
Good to see you still around pommy-git

Doug, Thanks for the advice.

But seriously, I'd rather look over my shoulder..

It's much bigger...

Much much much bigger..

And more fun to play with..

Lasts longer too...

Shall I go on?
