This is a link to a feature about the Pearl Channel Moreton Bay.
http://www.fishconnect.com.au/QFM%20Reports/Features/Pearl%20Channel.pdf This is only a 15 minutes run out from the Bribie passage and will be my new fishing hunting ground, after my holidays that is, which I start tomorrow.

I have not fished it before, so it will be cruising up and down it a few times at first. With the deckie (the wife), taking notes as I hit the mark button over anything interesting.

Hopefully I can post some decent fish pictures taken from there in the near future.

PolyFrank,

if it helps mate, years back (around 2003 and earlier) a lot of pearlies were being caught on spots 9nm and 12nm east of Bribie Island, on rubbly bottom. so perhaps head out around that area and give it a try one day? apologies if this is in the article, haven't read it. cheers.

Thanks 4.50 Drifter. There is no mention of pearlies in the feature.
It’s a sort of overview of the area, and suitable fishing methods. The fish it does mention are, tuna, mackerel, cod, morwong, trevally, cobia, bream, flathead, tailor, snapper, jew, and parrot. Depends on the time of year which of those species are there.

It’s a very big area compared to my fishing spots in the Southern Bay and more exposed to the wind. I’m going to make a sea anchor rig I can launch and retrieve from the side of the boat, to keep the bow into the wind on drifts. Me and the wife are getting to old for rock and roll!

Well you are definitely convinced the area is crap Andy.
What swayed me to give it a try was the feature I have posted a link to and the fact it is close to where I launch from.

I don’t know if the author works for the Queensland tourist board or not, but he did a good job convincing me.

Yeah mate, its actually a top stop. I have not been there for a while but its well worth the trek. I reckon its one of the better spots on the northern end of the bay.

Its pretty easy going, like you said, sounder on, find a hole and drop a line. I usually jog for livies there, but make sure you have a spare jig cause even the big fish smash the bait jigs and you will end up with nothing but a piece of fishing line and a sinker!

Hahaha... Not crap then. Thats good, you had me worried there.
