I am looking at doing a trip to 1770 and surrounding areas with some mates and being from Newcastle have no idea of the fishing available we are looking at fishing the estuary as well as trips to Awoonga and Monduran for the elusive barra and potentially other river systems close by any advice would be much appreciated especially on best time of year looking at spending 3 weeks.
Many thanks
Wayne
Not too sure about the creek mate but recently I worked there and managed to get out on a sunday charter to Warrego patches about 26nm east where we got a great catch of red emporer and snapper with a few coral trout. It was well worth the $190.0.
I know that there could be some good spanish mack just outside around roundhill. Not far out.
A chap by the name of Rod Harrison should be able to help you with Awoonga if you google him up.Like most barra impoundments the start of some warm weather brings them on the chew.
There is some good beach fishing to be had in the national park south from Agnes water.4WD reqiured here.
Cheers,
BM

thanks BM we only have a 4.1 polys so offshore is not really a option also looking at other river systems close by don't mind travelling a couple of hours ,looking at staying at 1770 as it seems to be quite central and don't want to be stuck at one of the dams if the fish don't want to play also have a mate who won't stop pestering us about a feed of muddies.

Member "snafu" on Newcastlefishing.com recently did a trip to 1770. he's quite helpful. If you aren't already a member, join up.
Hi, I have been to 1770 few times with 5.30 centre console. Stayed at 1770 caravan park and anchored poly off the beach - awesome place! Pump yabbies and fish with kids in creek. Others seemed to do well with crab pots, so good luck. Agree with charter for outside fishing, I went with Damian for half day trip outside for mackeral, hussar and emporer.
When going up the creek, watch out for sand bars, best trick is to follow some-one who has been there for a while. Be careful of where you go, there is a crab sanctuary not far north from 1770 creek, get caught in there and you'll lose boat car trailer the lot.
You can take trips to pancake creek from 1770 in smaller boats if weather okay, good fishing around rocks off Bustard Heads on way to pancake creek. I took wife and kids in 5.3 centre console without too much hassle, can get lumpy though. I'll be back there this December for annual trip, so let us know how you go.
mmm 1770
mmmm wait for tide if u gonna run a keelboat thru there (draught was 2.4m)-the bar moves-
i found out- almost the hard way
just outside the "main mouth" - we got a couple of good bonito -years ago in summer
the night before we sat inside the main passage waiting for light/tide and got loads of emperor think it was yellow throats
