I got my new 4.5 centre console with a 60hp Yamaha 4 stroke and done a few trials on the weekend. Happy overall but a few small issues to fix. Main thing I am not happy with is that it leans port side down underway running empty. The battery is under the console, and safety gear was all up the front in the starboard side storage compartment so the loading of it was not the problem. I bought a centre console as I fish on my own and got sick of the side console always leaning. Any tips. Foils, tabs, sand bag maybe? It doesn't porpoise but it does cavitate on medium turns with a bit of trim out.

can the small tab under the cav plate effect the way a boat rides? i know it effects steering but if you have hydraulic steering you would not be able to feel it. Just a thought.

i have a 4.55 side console with the 60 yammy 4 and looking at mine i cant think of any other reason

Hi Perko ... I have exactly the same boat & motor as you. The tank is centered ... not that I have one in mine but have noticed if I have a deckie who is heavier than me then I have to shift them closer to the console ... or me further away. Anything else in or on the boat that might give it some bias .. post up some pics when you get a chance.

Hi perko I have the same problem with my 455 cc went out with Steve from Solas props have found I need to put the motor up 1 hole and because I had tabs and a foil we took the foil off after the first test and it reacted well by not listing any where near as much. We then put a brand new ss 4 blade prop they have made for suzi 60 and wow what a difference 14 pitch and a larger diameter at top speed it revs at 6100 and does 25knots.With the origional prop it revved to 6300 and did 23 knots. with the new prop it is instant out and up from a standing start and in my view made it a different boat. These prop won't be available for about 4 weeks and I have bought the only one in the country.

All single engine boats are affected by prop torque to some degree. First sort out the engine height*, then prop size/pitch and then look at tabs/foil.

*Traditionally the motor is adjusted to have the waterline just under the cavitation plate when running on the plane.

I got a 3 blade stock yam prop (also had the solas, no difference) and I pull 25knots on flat water from memory at 5800rpm. My outboard is a 50hp 4 stroke.

I will put money on it that the problem with listing is either motor height or incorrect trim. My boat does it to some degree when the motor is trimmed into far. Trim it right out and the problem goes away.

Get someone to drive your boat at full speed whilst you hang you head out of the back. The cav plate and foil should be visible on the surface of the water, that is the cav plate should be level with the water surface when on the plane.

My boat 4.55 CC always has two people in it and the listing really gave me the sh#$%. I bought some smart Tabs, and only deploy the port side one with two up.

Brilliant!!!!!

My 4.8mt cuddy has a lean as well lightly loaded underway. I'm gonna try a permatrim and see how it goes. Was thinking of making my own

i had a boiler maker mate make one for me wilco, it has less drag giving me a faster top speed and better lift than my previous name brand foil. it is simply a flat fitted peice of ally
