Had a very interesting day fishing yesterday.
The night before the misses had a hens night to go too and she would need picking up late.
So at midnight I took the boat to the servo to refuel and picked her up on the way home.
Got to bed at 1am and then bloody pager goes off ( Fire Brigade call out)
Returned to bed at 2.30, had the alarm set to be up at 4am hmmm’ not much sleep tonight I thought, oh well I can have a poppy pass out when I get home.
Ok so I sleep threw my alarm clock until 4.45 and now have 15min to meet my mate at the ramp.
I start loading the boat and ask my mate to put the bungs in.
We head out and being the long weekend there are heaps of boats out. We stop at the headlands for a quick fish & start flicking the sp’s out.
A boat comes straight at us, looked like he was going to run us over. You would think that the ocean is a big place with plenty of room for all, not this idiot, he goes past within 5mts of us and runs over our lines.
We move to our second mark for the day and u guess it they are on our mark.
So we drift around with not much luck and decide to head further north.
We get to our mark and have it all to ourselves.
We didn’t use burley as we were in 65 meters
There were a lot dolphins flying out of the water, not our usual type either. They were Grey with white bellys.
Even the seals were launching themselves out of the water.
Whales were feeding, bait schools were busting the water.
We managed a few snapper all over 3kg
Mowie, pigfish, nanagi
Then Chickenlegs’s rod buckled over, line was coming off at an alarming rate, it wouldn’t stop. He couldn’t get it out of the rod holder.
I said to him that must be a good Snapper, then after a few min I said no its not a snapper it could be a Tuna, was too fast to be a shark.
He get the rod out of the holder finally and the line goes free, winds it in and he has a slimey. So I say that slimey sure put up a good fight. Then 30 meters away a whale surfaces and chicken legs says geez I nearly turned him around. We were in fits of laughter.
The northly blew up a little while later, so it was time to head for home. As I was cleaning the bait board I noticed a lot of water in the transom well.
Asked Chicken legs if he put the bungs in and he said yes I put them both in. Doh there are 3 bungs. We had been out for ages been towed backwards by a whale and only had a little water in the transom well. I put the bilge pump on but it was coming as fast as it was going out. Just as well as the poly floats so well, or I would have had to change my name to Jonah or something

Great story John... good chuckle there.

I heard about a guy in a 5.99 who didnt put the bottom bung it.
His mate so very impressed with the solid stable platform they were fishing from in some choppy water!
He then remembered that the bottom bung was not in and the inner skin was full of water.
He simply started heading for home and the water drained from the hull and all was good!
