hey guys, Steve here, first off just want to say thanks for the add on such a great site, such a good vault of useful information on all things poly and piss taking skills.
My mate Ryan and i have just made the purchase of a poly 5.3 cc "pocket rocket" with a yammy 115 on the back and couldn't be happier. We have both been well and truly converted to plastic.
on a side note this is our first poly, we do alot of game/bottom fishing up north of w.a and want to add accessories to our boat. ive heard conflicting reports on weather or not its a good idea to drill into the poly to add things like bait boards rod holders etc. just wanted to get the low down from those in the know.
g'day steve, when you filter out all the piss taking there is actually some good info hey. And as for your question drill the shit out of it, they love it! Thats probably one of my favourite things about my poly they are so easy to mod.

Hi Fellas
I have a 5.3 Cuddy Cab & love it for use in Tassie.
I have added a few bits & pieces to mine.
Here is a link to how I fitted my Ski Pole.

thanks for that McGyver yeah plenty of great info on here.
Pete that ski pole looks mint.
Just a few more quick question regarding drilling. obviously most mods Ive seen on here have been people drilling into the transom. is it ok to drill into the side gunwale and will flush mount rod holders fit. wasn't sure how much room (depth) u have there once u drill through. also if i were to install said rod holders in the gunwale where would any water that got in them drain too? or am i best to used closed end rod holders in this instance?
any advice is greatly appreciated

Here are some pics of some small rod holders I fitted. I drilled right through the outer part of the gunnel

& some I added into the gunnel in the gap between the skins. I sealed the hole up so my foam doesnt get wet but its a bugger besause they always hold water.

I cant find the pic of where I drilled the hole but when I do I will post it up.
Hi Steve, and welcome.
What Pirate Pete hasn't told you is that his plastic boat sank from all the holes he drilled in it, and now he just has a plywood kayak! pointlaugh

Thats just a out & out lie Doug.
Its the weather down here is no good & I havent been able to use it & I have spent my time building boats not fishing.

Hi Pocket Rocket. I have a 5.3. cuddy cabin.
You can drill holes almost anywhere and you can check the clearance you have on the transom by looking up underneath where the battery is.
If you do put rod holders in and encounter foam, the best way to remove the foam is with a light gauge steel tube. Stab the tube in and the tube will fill with foam.
