G'day Guys
Time to pay the ferry man I recon!
$250.00 from the Forrest Family. (Transfer done 22/12/09 6.02pm)
Dave if you could pass our best wishes and let his family know our thoughts and prayers are with them over this festive season.
WoW guys thats fantastic... I got a tear in me eye...
What a great start Thank you very much...:D
Brucesta thanks for starting it off,
Glenn, after our conversation in chat the other night, that is an exceptional and generous thing to do...
and a special mention to Doug... if you know Scottsmen, they are NOT generous with their $$! ;)
As far as the cause, of course the pilot in command is going to cop it, same as for ships captains.
The case was considered serious, it was around 20-30kn gusty winds and they went down the wire. Certainly not the intention of any one in the crew to injure another crew member. I believe it was just one of those things that unfortunately happens.
Once they fell, another paramedic Mick, and a doctor were sent out in another helicopter, lucky we got a back up, and they winched down without incident.
The doctor winched back up with Jamie and left the other paramedic Mick, to look after the rescue crewman and the original patient.
A second paramedic, Rosie, from TI went out in a Pilot boat as back up. Took them an hour and a half in rough seas to get there. Then they travelled back. Poor Rosie is 6 months pregnant and nearly didnt have a stomach lining from all the vomiting, but she did the job.
Considering the devestating news of their fellow paramedic being injured I think they did an outstanding job to complete the task and get everyone to hospital in a safe and timely manner under such a mentally traumatic situation. By the time the other two returned, Jamie was already on his way to Brisbane in the RFDS Lear Jet so they didnt even get to see him.
I was involved in 1979-81 in the early rescue choppers in Sydney. My great friend and mentor, COL Barry Collins RAAMC pointed out to me the attrition rate in helyclumper medical teams in the USA. Despite this I was involved in a few rescues in the early days, but I only trusted mil-spec choppers.
I hope this young lad makes a full recovery and enjoys his young family. All praise to his missus who is obviously putting on a brave face. Bad time of year for this to happen. I'm off to play with my grandson and thank God.
the old poly don't have a lot, but i can kick in some money as well.

Dave, any update on how he is going.
John
Hi John
Not alot of improvement at the moment.
Its a waiting game with this type of injury. It takes a lot longer for the swelling to subside in the spine unlike normal injuries. Could be months yet before he has any return of feeling or movement.
His right arm was literally smashed to pieces and the doctors have finally stopped operating on it for the time being.
He is off the ventilator now and talking. He had multiple fractures to his ribs at the back so it was affecting his ability to breath but that has since improved.
I am going back to work on Wednesday and will give him a ring and let him know how kind and generous you guys have been and wish him the best from us all.
I will let you know the latest after that call.
O.K. finally got around to it, $50 from the nurse and I.
See you all in a few weeks, I'm off to Vietnam.:p
Many thanks Chris and Mrs Chin!! Enjoy your holiday :D
I only get paid once a month, will sort something out when the funds come through (would do it now cept I just forked out $3000 in insurance bills).

Geez you would need a wheel barrow to carry all that cash home after a month.. thats bad timing for big bills and xmas... mate no rush, he is there for the long haul unfortunately.
I mentioned everyones kind donations to the boss yesterday. He was amazed and appreciative of everyones concern and gifts, even though you dont even know the guy.
The boss said the ambulance service is looking after Jamie extremely well. They have bought him a TV for his bed and other stuff to while away the time. ( CYA time for the upcoming lawsuit do you think?)
You could imagine the frustration of being stuck in bed and not being able to move. Jamie is one of those guys that loved his sport and was playing rugby and basketball locally. I think the fact that he was so fit has helped reduce his injuries and aided in his recovery, albeit slowly. I dont think my fat unfit body would have coped with such trauma.
again.. thanks to all of you :)
$100 From Steve & Ros ,Hope all goes well

Hi Guys, some up dated info on Jamies condition
Jamie underwent another operation on one of the discs in his neck. It was moving so needed to be put back in place and secured.
This has been an outstanding success as he now has improved movement of fingers in both hands and can grip things. Before he could close his hand but had no fine movement or power to grip anything.
Seems the prognosis is not good for a reasonable recovery. He still has no feeling from nipples down and the doctors are saying that it is not going to improve from there. There is a good chance that his arms and hands will improve functionality over time.
Jamie and his wife are extremely grateful to you all for your generous support and your thoughts on his recovery.
I'm glad we've been able to help in some small way, but that prognosis isn't good is it? At best, he's going to be a high para, with some hand movement.
What's the compo situation Dave? Are you blokes well covered in cases like this? Is it automatic, or does he have to fight everyone from the Air Ministry to the YMCA to get compo?
I ask because a theatre nurse I know in the RAAF was in a Blackhawk crash in East Timor when on a medevac. She broke her back but without the neuro complications that Jamie has. We both assumed she'd be covered for it without question. Her first visitor in hospital was General Cosgrove, CDF, her next was Chief of Air Force, the third was a little shit in a bowler hat from the compo people who said, "You will have to prove to our satisfaction, that every single thing you claim for was due to this crash." She told him to get out of her ward (in basic anglo-saxon). He left, smiling. Bastirt. Why would you fight for this country when they treat you like that?
The company is certainly on the front foot at the moment. Its literally, if the wife asks for it, they get it. They have bought them TV, computer with wireless internet, PS3 (dont know how he is sposed to play that with no fookin hands working?) plus accommodating wife in motel for at least 6 months ++++ other stuff.
I think they really are panicking and are covering all bases with the up coming legal battle. Being seen to do the right thing.
It horrible to think that way about the company you work for, but thats my first impression of it all.
They certainly havent done anything similar for other ambos, most likely as its a high profile incident. Normally the pilot manages to kill everyone on board when they crash a chopper in QLD.

Young Doug is correct you fight for your country and once injuryed you have to fight for what should be a normal entitlement.
Soldiers have been ask was it you blow up in that vehicle can you prove you were at that time on duty and it was you shot on the day metioned
This is true and factual.
This is also true and factual CDF (commander defence Force the big BOSS) said to injured parachute soldier((paraplegic no pun intended) as long as you have air in your lungs you have a job with defence. Within days they were processing him out of defence to be looked after by Vet Affairs, spent 11 years waiting for full entitlements poor bugger.
